What You Will Do

The ES-WPD Graduate Student (GS) Program offers paid summer internships for Graduate students in a variety of engineering disciplines. The program provides mentoring, hands-on technical experience, and professional development opportunities through a formalized work plan complementing the student's chosen area of study.
Examples of LANL projects in ES-WPD include, but are not limited to:
  • Learn about facilities mechanical systems design and operation from seasoned engineers
  • See how your engineering skills can contribute to national security
  • Learn how to be a design team member
  • Learn how to navigate and implement prevailing industry codes and standards
  • Gain expertise in the development of design deliverables including drawings, specifications, test and inspection plans (TIPs), statements of special inspections (SSIs), and calculations
  • Develop engineering judgment

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program.
  • Must be enrolled in at least 12 semester credit hours (or full-time equivalent). Entering college freshmen must provide documentation indicating matriculation into an undergraduate degree program.
  • Must currently have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent)

Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
