Internship Data Sourcing information

What is an internship data sourcing role?

An Internship Data Sourcing role involves supporting the process of finding, collecting, and organizing data that a company or organization needs for its operations or projects. Interns in this position may research public databases, scrape online sources, verify data accuracy, and help manage large datasets. The job provides valuable experience in data analysis, attention to detail, and familiarity with data management tools. It is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in data science, research, or analytics.

What types of tasks and projects can I expect as an intern in data sourcing, and how much autonomy will I have?

As an intern in data sourcing, you'll typically be responsible for identifying, collecting, and organizing data from a variety of sources to support analytical or business objectives. Your daily tasks may include web research, data validation, and assisting with database management. While interns often start with guided assignments, many organizations encourage independent problem-solving and allow interns to propose new sourcing methods. You'll usually collaborate closely with data analysts, engineers, and sometimes marketing or business teams, providing a great opportunity to learn cross-functional communication and project management skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship data sourcing professional, and why are they important?

To thrive in an Internship Data Sourcing role, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with data collection methods, often supported by coursework in statistics or business. Proficiency in tools like Excel, Google Sheets, and basic experience with data management systems or databases is commonly expected. Effective communication, resourcefulness, and organizational skills are important soft skills for collaborating with teams and managing multiple data sources. These abilities ensure accurate, efficient data gathering and support informed decision-making for business or research needs.

About The Opportunity
The Wonder Sourcing team is looking for a motivated and analytical Sourcing Analyst to join our food procurement team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional (0-2 years' experience) to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced commercial environment. You'll support the sourcing function with data analysis and financial modeling, and take on responsibility for a small product category-assisting in sourcing new products, negotiating pricing, and managing category-level cost performance.
The Impact You Will Make
Data & Financial Analysis:
  • Support the creation of pricing models and cost trackers to help monitor category performance and supplier pricing.
  • Analyze procurement and sales data to identify trends, cost changes, and margin opportunities.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations for internal stakeholders and supplier reviews.
  • Contribute to budgeting and forecasting by compiling and interpreting data from internal systems and market sources.
  • Track commodity and market trends to support commercial planning and risk analysis.

Buying Support:
  • Assist in managing a small product category within the food portfolio.
  • Help identify new product opportunities and support initial sourcing activities.
  • Liaise with suppliers to gather pricing, lead time, and specification information.
  • Support basic pricing negotiations under guidance, contributing to value and margin goals.
  • Assist in managing the cost of goods sold (COGS) budget for your category, including updating internal tools and flagging cost changes.
  • Work cross-functionally with NPD, Technical, and Quality Assurance teams to help onboard new products and suppliers.
  • Maintain accurate records of supplier and product data within procurement systems.

What You Bring to the Table
  • 0-2 years of experience in a supply chain, procurement, or buying role-internships or placements within the food or FMCG industry are a plus.
  • Strong Excel skills, with the ability to work with data sets, use formulas, and create basic models.
  • Interest in pricing, supplier management, and commercial decision-making.
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills and the confidence to work with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Proactive, curious, and eager to learn about food sourcing, cost structures, and supply chain operations.

Our hybrid model requires 3 days a week in the office. That said, many team members choose to come in more often to take advantage of in-person collaboration and connection. You're welcome-and encouraged-to be in the office up to 5 days a week if it works for you.
New York/New Jersey: $96,000 - $102,000 per year.
