Job Description:

What's the role

Shell is seeking an Energy Trading Compliance Advisor (also known internally as Compliance Advisor) to join its team in San Diego, California. This role will report to the Head of Compliance Advisory, Shell Energy Americas.

This role will provide support for Shell Energy's gas, power, and environmental products origination and trading businesses, as well as Shell Renewables and the B2B energy businesses, with a focus on the markets in the U.S west region and Canada.

This role will serve as the primary interface with commercial staff, including front-line traders and originators, operational staff, functional teams, and regional leadership, on regulatory compliance and policy-related matters, questions, and concerns. The ability to apply regulatory requirements and policy standards to a wide range of real-world scenarios is essential.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide advice related to compliance with external regulations / internal requirements, or conformance with Group Standards, Manuals and Shell Trading Policies

  • Provide advice and guidance related to the understanding and mitigation of regulatory and compliance risks such as market manipulation, anti-trust, bribery & corruption, and money laundering

  • Provide input, expertise, and support in the development and execution of the Compliance Training agenda

  • Serve as the Compliance representative in the San Diego office and be a collaborative member of functional coordination meetings with Finance, Risk, Tax, and others, in regard to New Business Activities

  • Be a collaborative member of the wider global Compliance organization

  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the various lines of business in Shell Trading & Supply and apply internal and external standards to commercial activity to ensure appropriate Compliance risk mitigations

  • Be an independent voice and provide challenge to contribute to the continuation of a culture of compliance within Trading & Supply, specifically in a non-hub location

What you bring

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

  • At least 8 years of experience working within a commodity trading regulatory environment, preferably with knowledge of or exposure to the energy sector

  • Relevant knowledge of the U.S. commodities regulatory markets and applicable CFTC, FERC and other energy regulations in the energy sector is preferred

  • Must be comfortable speaking up, escalating concerns and can provide an independent view and voice

What we offer

The base salary range for this position is $115,000 - $173,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
