What you’ll do
  • We are seeking a Commodity Trader for our Hi-Pro Feeds brand in Comanche, TX or Friona, TX. This position is challenged to develop and utilize trade skills in purchasing and execution in a defined market.
  • This individual will use market analytics, build vendor rapport, buy, and sell commodities, provide logistics assistance, and manage contracts.
  • The Commodity Trader is expected to build and maintain vendor relationships on the purchasing side of the business as well as with the logistics team and transportation partners.
  • Market Analysis: Learn and apply the company’s risk-management tools. Analyze market trends, leading indicators, and complex market dynamics, develop and clearly communicate market insights.
  • Become proficient in the company’s systems, tools, and reports.
  • Secure commodity supply within the assigned region.
  • Engage with vendors and communicate ideas and informed perspectives.
  • Build the skills needed to make sound buying and selling decisions.
  • Prepare required reports.
  • Logistics and Execution: Support or lead logistics planning and execution, applying foundational knowledge of truck and rail transportation and commodity arbitrage.
  • Understand the systems and procedures used to document and support trade execution.
  • Vendor Relationship Management: Build and maintain a broad network of market relationships. Discuss market conditions with vendors and respond to questions about transactions, including settlements.
  • Expand the vendor contact network, with manager guidance, as market knowledge grows.
  • With support from the Commodity Group Manager, develop productive, ongoing relationships with current and prospective vendors.
  • Establish strong trading relationships across all vendor types.
  • Manage contracts, including reconciling customer balances.
Who we’re looking for

Degree in a business-related field or equivalent experience. At least two years of merchandising experience. Proven knowledge of grain markets, hedging strategies, and commodity flows. Knowledge of agricultural trading standards and procedures. You’ll also need Demonstrated aptitude in accounting and financial practices and procedures. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to travel, as needed.
