Job description

Augustana University invites applications for a full-time Intercultural Outreach Specialist within the De and Dave Knudson Center for Global Engagement. This position plays a key role in advancing the university's commitment to global learning by developing engaging educational programs, fostering intercultural understanding, and strengthening connections across campus and within the Sioux Falls community.

The Intercultural Outreach Specialist leads the planning and execution of signature campus events, oversees strategic communications and marketing for the Center for Global Engagement, and collaborates with faculty, staff, students, and community partners to create meaningful intercultural experiences. This position also supports donor engagement, supervises student employees, manages communications and promotional initiatives, and contributes to the overall mission of preparing students to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Plan, coordinate, and assess educational and intercultural programming, including major campus events and community engagement initiatives.
  • Build collaborative partnerships across campus and throughout the Sioux Falls community to support global engagement.
  • Develop and implement communication and marketing strategies, including website content, print materials, email communications, and social media.
  • Coordinate branding and promotional efforts for the Center for Global Engagement in partnership with University Marketing and Communications.
  • Manage event logistics, budgets, calendars, purchasing, and administrative operations.
  • Recruit, supervise, and mentor student employees supporting communications and outreach efforts.
  • Support donor relations, fundraising initiatives, reporting, and special projects.
  • Represent the Center and the university through campus committees, professional organizations, and community partnerships.

Qualifications:

A successful candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor's degree in intercultural or communication studies, public relations, marketing, international education, graphic design, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in communications, marketing, programming, event planning, or a related field.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Experience developing marketing campaigns and coordinating events.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, web content management, and social media platforms.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
  • Commitment to fostering intercultural learning and global engagement.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience in higher education or international education.
  • Experience studying, working, or living abroad.
  • Experience supervising student employees or interns.
  • Knowledge of a language in addition to English.
  • Experience with fundraising, donor engagement, or university communications.
