In summary, an Internship Cae Fea Engineer is a temporary, entry-level position focused on learning and supporting CAE/FEA tasks, while a Mechanical Design Engineer is a full-time role responsible for designing mechanical components and systems using CAD and FEA tools. Both roles require similar technical skills but differ in experience level and responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Internship CAE/FEA Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Internship CAE/FEA Engineer, you need a solid understanding of engineering fundamentals, finite element analysis (FEA) concepts, and typically a background in mechanical or related engineering fields. Familiarity with CAE/FEA software such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or HyperMesh, and possibly coursework or certification in simulation tools, is often required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help interns excel in collaborative, technical environments. These competencies are crucial for producing accurate simulations, supporting design validation, and contributing meaningfully to engineering projects.

What is an Internship CAE FEA Engineer?

An Internship CAE FEA Engineer is a student or recent graduate who assists engineering teams in using Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) methods to analyze and optimize product designs. This role typically involves setting up simulations, interpreting results, and supporting senior engineers in problem-solving tasks. Interns gain hands-on experience with industry-standard software and work on real-world engineering projects, helping them develop technical and analytical skills relevant to mechanical or structural engineering fields.

What kinds of projects and daily tasks can I expect as an Internship CAE/FEA Engineer?

As an Internship CAE/FEA Engineer, you will typically support senior engineers in conducting simulations and analyses using computer-aided engineering (CAE) and finite element analysis (FEA) tools. Your daily tasks may include preparing and cleaning CAD models, setting up simulation parameters, running analyses, and interpreting results to help improve product designs. You’ll often collaborate with design, testing, and manufacturing teams, providing input based on your simulation findings. This hands-on experience offers a valuable foundation in engineering analysis and teamwork, and can open doors to more advanced engineering roles after graduation.

We empower employees to take on challenging assignments and roles with an elevated level of responsibility in our agile working environment. Our people make us who we are, and we create incredible products and experiences that empower us to THINK OUTSIDE.

Position Overview:
You will provide technical leadership in the development and advancement of durability engineering methods to support next-generation off-road vehicle design. In this role, you will lead the application of FEA-driven simulation techniques to improve predictive accuracy, efficiency, and consistency across engineering teams. You will collaborate with global stakeholders to standardize processes, integrate physical test data, and influence early-stage product development decisions. You will also mentor engineers and promote adoption of best practices and scalable methodologies. This role offers the opportunity to shape durability engineering approaches and drive meaningful impact on product performance and development effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, validation, and deployment of advanced durability methods using commercial CAE and FEA tools.

  • Drive innovation in FEA-based simulation approaches, including fatigue analysis, nonlinear simulation, transient response, and complex joint modeling.

  • Identify gaps in current CAE workflows and establish standardized processes to support global engineering consistency.

  • Define and implement modeling guidelines, load case strategies, and post-processing procedures to improve scalability and repeatability.

  • Develop and standardize load generation approaches, durability events, and virtual use cases.

  • Collaborate with MBD and test teams to improve integration of loading data and enhance simulation fidelity.

  • Improve correlation between simulation models and physical test results through validation and method refinement.

  • Develop and implement automation strategies to streamline CAE workflows using scripting tools.

  • Apply durability methodologies early in vehicle architecture development to influence design decisions and performance targets.

  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and subject matter expertise to engineering teams.

Desired Competencies:

  • Technical / Functional Expertise: You apply the required technical or professional knowledge to perform your role effectively and stay current within your area of expertise.

  • Critical Thinking: You analyze information objectively, evaluate options, and apply sound judgment to solve problems and make informed decisions.
