Job Description:
Microchip Technology Inc. has an Intern-Engineering (Software Development) opening based in Houston, Texas. In this role, you will work alongside experienced engineers to support the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software solutions for enterprise and data center storage applications. This internship offers hands-on experience with real-world development projects, exposure to cross-functional engineering teams, and the opportunity to build foundational skills in software development, debugging, and product delivery.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist with designing, developing, testing, and debugging software components and APIs under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Support enhancements to web-based management software and related applications for storage solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews, team meetings, and Agile development activities to learn software development best practices.
  • Help troubleshoot software issues, perform root cause analysis, and contribute to bug fixes and performance improvements.
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, test, and other engineering teams to support complete product solutions.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code while following established engineering standards and processes.
  • Gain hands-on experience with development tools, testing methods, and software delivery practices in a professional engineering environment.

Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a BS degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Coursework, academic projects, or internship experience in software development.
  • Working knowledge of one or more programming languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, Python, or JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with software development concepts such as debugging, testing, version control, and object-oriented programming.
  • Exposure to web technologies, APIs, JSON/XML, or scripting languages is a plus.
  • Experience with Linux or Windows development environments is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies.
  • Exposure to software testing frameworks, CI/CD tools, or automation tools such as Jenkins.
  • Interest in enterprise storage, embedded systems, or management software applications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn new tools and technologies.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
