Title:

Instructional System Design & eLearning Specialist

Belong. Connect. Grow. with KBR!

Around here, we define the future.

We are a company of innovators, thinkers, creators, explorers, volunteers, and dreamers. But we all share one goal: to improve the world responsibly and safely.

We are seeking an experienced and versatile Instructional Design & eLearning Specialist to lead the design, development, and deployment of mission-critical training solutions for NASA's Flight Operations Directorate (FOD). Operating at the vital intersection of instructional systems design (ISD), modern digital media production, and technical project management, this role is essential in building workforce capability for the next generation of NASA's spaceflight operations.

Collaborating directly with Flight Controllers, Instructors, subject matter experts (SMEs), and video production teams, you will drive comprehensive learning initiatives. Your work will directly prepare astronauts and ground control teams to safely and successfully execute human spaceflight operations across all current and future NASA missions, including the International Space Station (ISS), Artemis Missions and future lunar base initiatives.

Location: Onsite at NASA Johnson Space Center, 77058

Core Responsibilities

Instructional Design, Instruction & Content Development

  • Apply ADDIE and sound ISD principles to design, build, and maintain interactive, technical learning solutions (eLearning, web-based, and classroom materials).
  • Partner with SMEs, flight controllers, and engineers to perform Training Needs Analysis (TNA) and translate complex technical/operational requirements into clear instructional assets.
  • Drive content evolution across programs: incorporate new Artemis program content while adapting heritage ISS modules for the evolving multi-program operations landscape.
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and help lead core FOD common content programs, such as Space Flight Academy, Instructor Training Courses (ITC), and Evaluator/Mentor Modules.
  • Support train-the-trainer initiatives to equip flight instructors with baseline instructional delivery techniques.

Digital Media & eLearning Production

  • Utilize modern authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Camtasia) and digital media editing platforms (Adobe Creative Suite) for audio, video, and visual asset production.
  • Maintain, update, and convert online lessons to modern formats; optimize online learning design workflows, file management structures, and internal web/knowledge bases (SharePoint, Wiki).
  • Author scripts, storyboards, and interactive courseware; manage media assets and troubleshoot technical issues with deployed courseware.

Project Management

  • Manage training initiatives from inception to delivery: establishing timelines, tracking project milestones, estimating resource requirements, and ensuring rigorous quality standards.

Basic Qualifications & Requirements

Required

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or a related field
  • Experience: 4+ years of direct experience developing technical training/eLearning solutions.
  • Portfolio: A digital portfolio demonstrating end-to-end ISD deliverables, eLearning interactions, and multimedia work is required upon application.
  • Instructional Tools: Proven proficiency with authoring tools (Articulate Storyline/Rise, Camtasia) and multimedia editing tools (Adobe Creative Suite).
  • ISD Frameworks: Demonstrated expertise applying the ADDIE model, storyboarding, and scriptwriting within technical environments.
  • Project Management: Track record of managing training projects, scheduling, milestone tracking, and stakeholder communication.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to consult effectively with highly technical subject matter experts and navigate fast-paced deadlines.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Ability to occasionally support work outside standard business hours to meet critical mission surge requirements.

Highly Desired / Preferred

  • Flight Operations Knowledge: Prior experience supporting flight operations, aerospace systems, or technical/high-consequence training environments.
  • Technical & Data Management: Working knowledge of web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and experience maintaining structured data platforms (SharePoint Online, Wikis).
  • Job Analysis Techniques: Experience with DACUM or formal workforce task analysis methodologies.

Physical & Working Conditions

  • Equipment Transport & Setup: Ability to lift, move, and position training hardware, media equipment, and AV/studio gear weighing up to 25 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Onsite Mobility: Ability to navigate training facilities, classroom environments, and simulation spaces to support live instruction and equipment setup.
