Internship Overview

The Governance & Portfolio Oversight team, within Duke Energy's Project Management & Construction (PMC) organization, is seeking an intern to support business operations, portfolio reporting, process improvement initiatives, and reporting automation efforts.

The PMC organization is responsible for building Duke Energy's next generation of power infrastructure and is leading one of the largest energy buildouts in the company's history. As Duke Energy works to meet growing customer demand and advance a cleaner energy future, PMC is planning and constructing renewable solar generation, bulk energy storage, simple and combined cycle natural gas facilities, as well evaluating pumped storage hydro and other emerging energy technologies.

Working within this organization, the intern will gain exposure to large-scale energy projects while supporting data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives that help drive portfolio performance.

What You'll Do

The Governance & Portfolio Oversight team manages oversight of PMC business process governance, document management, reporting automation, performance improvement efforts, and portfolio reporting. The intern will support the team with data collection and analysis, report development, process reviews, and strategic initiatives aligned to current business needs.

Potential projects and responsibilities may include:

  • Automating project and portfolio reporting processes

  • Developing and documenting business process workflows

  • Analyzing data and creating dashboards using Power BI

  • Supporting reporting governance and data quality initiatives

  • Assisting with performance improvement and business optimization efforts

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and implement process improvements

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled and pursuing a four-year degree in Business Administration, Business Analytics, Business Management, Data Science, Project Management, Engineering, or other related degree

  • Must not graduate prior to August 2027

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher

Desired Qualifications

  • Possess good interpersonal skills and influencing abilities.

  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.

  • Experience with researching information on the web.

  • Sourcing and/or negotiation experience.

  • Experience using Microsoft based programs for creating spreadsheets, documents, databases and advanced forms.

  • Project management experience.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility. Reliable, consistent transportation is required to ensure timely arrival at the applicable facility.

  • Some opportunities require a valid driver's license

  • Many of our opportunities require a 40-hour work week

  • Housing stipend available when applicable
