Book Cover Designer

Summary:
The Book Cover Designer will serve The Daily Grace Co. by creating visually stunning, theologically rich, and brand-aligned book covers that reflect the company's mission and Sage brand identity. This role is responsible for concepting, designing, and refining cover art for Bible studies, trade books, and devotionals, ensuring each design communicates the heart of the content and invites readers to experience the transformative beauty of the gospel.

Working closely with the Creative Director, Editorial Director, and Marketing team, the Book Cover Designer will bring together typography, color, imagery, and layout to produce designs that embody wisdom, clarity, and excellence. This role plays a key part in ensuring that every TDGC product visually reinforces our mission to equip disciples to know and love God and His Word.


Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or related field required.
  • 3-5 years of professional design experience, preferably in publishing, branding, or print design.
  • A deep passion for books, theology, and the role of beauty in Christian publishing.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Strong understanding of composition, typography, and visual hierarchy.
  • Proven ability to design for print, including experience with production specs, trim sizes, bleed, color calibration, and print-ready files.
  • Familiarity with current trends in both Christian publishing and the broader design industry.
  • Ability to maintain and adapt to TDGC's visual identity (Sage archetype: timeless, wise, transformative) while contributing fresh, creative ideas.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across departments.
  • Understand how AI integrates into your position.
  • Alignment with TDGC's mission, doctrinal statement, and core values.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Creative Concepting & Design
    • Design book and Bible study covers that visually express theological themes with beauty, clarity, and depth.
    • Develop multiple cover concepts per title, exploring typography, imagery, and layout options that align with the manuscript's message and audience.
    • Create cohesive visual systems for product lines, ensuring unity across series while maintaining creative distinctiveness.
    • Balance timeless design principles with awareness of contemporary publishing trends.
  • Collaboration & Review Process
    • Work closely with the Art Director and Editorial Director to understand each project's theological and emotional core before beginning design work.
    • Partner with the Marketing team to ensure covers align with market positioning and customer appeal.
    • Present design concepts to the Design Selections Team and incorporate feedback into revisions.
    • Communicate proactively about design timelines, progress, and challenges to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Production & File Preparation
    • Prepare final, press-ready files according to printer specifications, ensuring color accuracy, bleed, and resolution meet quality standards.
    • Collaborate with Layout Designers on the creation of interior layouts and final production files to ensure cohesion between cover and interior design, brand consistency, and adherence to production specifications.
    • Maintain organized digital files, version control, and naming conventions according to company standards.
  • Brand Stewardship & Innovation
    • Uphold TDGC's visual identity, ensuring all designs reflect the brand's Sage archetype and high standard of beauty.
    • Research and present creative inspiration drawn from publishing, fine arts, interior design, and cultural trends to inform fresh approaches.
    • Participate in quarterly design reviews and contribute ideas for long-term creative direction within the publishing line.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration
    • Collaborate with the Editorial, Marketing, and Product Development teams to ensure covers complement content and marketing strategy.
    • Support marketing initiatives with additional design assets such as promotional graphics, mockups, and social visuals related to new releases.
  • Continuous Growth & Excellence
    • Seek ongoing development in design craft, printing technology, and publishing aesthetics.
    • Stay current on design software, tools, and trends that can elevate TDGC's creative output.
    • Embrace feedback as part of the design refinement process, modeling humility, professionalism, and creativity.
  • Other duties as assigned
