Design, coordinate, and deliver roadway infrastructure projects in compliance with TxDOT and AASHTO standards; utilize knowledge in the TxDOT Roadway Design Manual, A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets (AASHTO Green Book) to produce roadway designs that include horizontal and vertical alignments; calculate deceleration and acceleration lengths for turning lanes; design pavement cross slope super elevations based on needed pavement edge elevations and to sustain vehicle centripetal acceleration in horizontal curves; perform sight distance evaluations using the sum of brake reaction distance and braking distance; design pedestrian and bicycle facilities, ensuring ADA compliance by meeting cross slope and grade requirements along sidewalks and at crosswalks; design bicycle facilities to accommodate designated users for the pertinent corridor, with additional design considerations based on corridor context such as vehicle speed and volume; design driveways to maximize safety and mobility by evaluating existing and proposed driveways, consolidating where possible, or redesigning driveway geometry; prepare and adapt design solutions for projects in urban, suburban, and rural environments from high-speed to low-speed conditions, as well as environmental constraints; develop schematic and PS&E (Plans, Specifications, and Estimates) designs, temporary traffic control plans, and cost estimates and quantities using historical bid data and TxDOT Standards and Specifications, including evaluating right-of-way impacts and coordinating with utilities and stakeholders, identifying and coordinating with utilities and responding to contractor questions during the bidding and construction phases; use OpenRoads Designer to create 3D models and terrain surfaces, with tasks such as implementing superelevation, modeling dynamic end conditions, including retaining walls and cut/fill slopes; analyze adjacent developments and construct 3D terrain models based on proposed grading contours; utilize the developed terrain models to analyze development impacts to ultimate roadway design; analyze developing cut and fill slopes from the adjacent property to proposed roadway using end condition templates in OpenRoads Designer, considering proposed superelevations of the pavement cross slopes and adjusting the superelevation transitions to optimize the needed end conditions; produce exhibits and schematic plots to support design visualization and client communication. Examples include TCP exhibits, ROW impact exhibits, pedestrian facility comparisons based on factors such as safety benefits, two-way bicycle travel accommodations, ROW impacts, user experience, and more; use software tools including OpenRoads Designer for roadway modeling, MicroStation for CAD drafting, AutoTURN for vehicle path analysis, Bluebeam Revu for document markup, and Microsoft Excel for data analysis and quantity calculation; supervise and mentor Engineers-in-Training (EITs) and interns, review design work for accuracy and compliance; review designs include verifying that designs follow RDM criteria for the pertinent corridor stipulations, ensuring annotations are organized and uniform, and verifying that plan sheets are following TxDOT PS&E Prep Manual guidance; coordinate with subconsultants, other engineering disciplines, task leads from other groups such as the Drainage group and Traffic group to ensure deliverables from other groups are uniform with deliverables from the Roadway group; participate in meetings with clients and stakeholders to ensure alignment on project goals and deliverables; clarify questions or comments from client reviews, present findings on any conflicts with utilities, developments, or adjacent projects; attend professional organization meetings and industry events to stay informed of current practices and trends; support project pursuits, assist in developing scopes, fees, and schedules for contracts and work authorizations, and begin signing and sealing plan sheets; take on leadership roles such as roadway task lead and full project task lead, managing technical execution and interdisciplinary coordination.
Requirements
