Job description

We are looking to add new talent to our growing team! We are currently seeking aย Staff Wetland Scientist 1ย to work in a technical support role with highly skilled professionals on diverse project teams in a dynamic environment. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing group and company and get involved in a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients. This is aย full-timeย position located in ourย Rochester, NYย office.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
In this position, you will:

  • Conduct routine data collection, analysis, and reporting using approved standard procedures appropriate for this discipline.
  • Ability to assist in the preparation of permitting applications for state and government wetland agencies in NY, PA, and other states as needed as well as understand the Clean Water Act Section 401/404 permitting.
  • Data collection will include the delineation of natural resources (e.g., wetlands, streams, and wildlife habitat) using standard industry protocols; collection and management of field data (e.g., use of GPS, GIS, digital data forms, soil boring logs, water sampling data sheets, etc.); and synthesis of the data into our standard reporting deliverables.
  • Experience with wetland and stream delineation surveys, ecological surveys, drill/test pit explorations, and water sampling desired.
  • Assist in identifying technical issues and regulatory compliance approaches for evaluation.
  • Conduct site reconnaissance.
  • Perform other routine data collection activities such as stormwater inspections.
  • Document project-related activities including project communications.
  • Draft technical reports and create project mapping using GIS.
  • Perform all work in accordance with company and client Health & Safety protocols.
  • Comply with the Guiding Principles and Code of Behavior articulated in our Company Charter.
  • May assist with field work including monitoring subsurface explorations, collecting bedrock, soil, and groundwater samples, monitoring geotechnical instrumentation, and construction monitoring of geotechnical and environmental projects as needed.
  • This position will require frequent travel, including out of state week-long travel.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science or Natural Resource/Science discipline.
  • 0-3 years of related work experience, internships included.
  • Experience with conducting natural resources field surveys and/or construction environmental compliance monitoring, is preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of GIS/CAD and experience using a mapping grade GPS is preferred.ย 
  • NYSDEC 4-Hour Erosion and Sediment Control Training is desired, but not necessary.
  • Prior experience performing ASTM Phase I and Phase II ESAs is desired, but not necessary.
  • Must possess strong written, verbal, and telephone communication skills, particularly the ability to produce accurate and concise field notes, exploration logs, and field reports.
  • Must possess strong computer skills, including proficiency in industry standard software (e.g., Microsoft Word and Excel, and Adobe Acrobat at a minimum).
  • Must have a valid driver's license, have the ability to travel to temporary out-of-town assignments as needed, and have a reliable form of transportation to travel to job sites and the office.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the positions: lift 30lbs safely, unassisted, traverse unstable/sloping sites and landscapes, work outside in a range of weather conditions, and have the stamina for moderate physical activity for the majority of field working hours.

The salary range for this position in Rochester, NY is 45,260.80 - 65,561.60 annually. Actual compensation will be based upon a variety of factors such as education, related work experience, certificates, skills, and current market conditions.
