Contract Youth Baseball & Softball Umpires


Do you love the game of baseball or softball? Are you confident, fair, and passionate about creating a positive experience for young athletes? The City of O'Fallon, in partnership with the New Horizons Youth Baseball League (NHYBL), is seeking enthusiastic and dependable Contract Umpires to officiate youth league games for players ages 7Uโ€“14U during the spring and fall seasons.

This is a great opportunity for experienced umpires or individuals with strong game knowledge who are ready to step onto the field, support youth development, and help deliver a safe and enjoyable season for hundreds of young athletes. As a contract worker, all applicants must be at least 18 years old.


As an NHYBL Umpire, you will:


โ€ข Officiate recreational baseball and/or softball games using NHYBL rules and applicable governing rules.
โ€ข Lead pregame plate meetings and conduct field inspections.
โ€ข Maintain game flow, enforce rules, and promote safety and sportsmanship.
โ€ข Make confident, impartial calls and communicate clearly with coaches and players.
โ€ข Manage game pace, time limits, and weather-related decisions.
โ€ข Address unsportsmanlike behavior when needed and report ejections or incidents to league administrators.
โ€ข Represent the league with professionalism, fairness, and integrity.

What We're Looking For
โ€ข Knowledge of baseball and/or softball rules (training available).
โ€ข Strong communication and conflictresolution abilities.
โ€ข Ability to manage youth sports environments calmly and confidently.
โ€ข Previous umpiring experience is a plus, but not required.
โ€ข Reliability, punctuality, and willingness to learn leaguespecific rules.

Physical Requirements
โ€ข Ability to stay active-standing, walking, and running-for the duration of games.
โ€ข Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
โ€ข Ability to visually track game play and make accurate decisions.
