The Electrification and Automation (EA) division of Siemens Smart Infrastructure provides a full range of energy distribution systems and solutions for customers across all markets and channels. As an intern, you'll support reliable power distribution grids used today while gaining exposure to our Future Grids technologies that are helping shape the power systems of tomorrow.
We are seeking qualified candidates for our Mechanical Design Engineer Co-op during the Spring and Summer 2027 semesters, beginning in January 2027. This program is based in Wendell, NC.
You'll make an impact by:
  • Supporting mechanical design and 3D modeling projects, including drawing updates and design revisions.
  • Assisting with troubleshooting production support issues and implementing design improvements.
  • Supporting requests for special tools and fixtures to improve production and assembly processes.
  • Creating and updating engineering drawings and documentation for new and existing products.
  • Collaborating with engineering and production teams to support prototype builds and hands-on development activities.

You'll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
  • Current undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Candidates must be enrolled with the North Carolina State University co-op program and cannot graduate prior to September 2027.
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week) during the Spring and Summer 2027 semesters.
  • Eligible candidates must be located within 50 miles of Wendell, NC, as this role does not provide housing or relocation support.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with 3D modeling or drafting tools (SolidWorks, NX, AutoCAD).
  • Hands-on mechanical experience through coursework, labs, or projects.
  • Exposure to production or manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with engineering systems (SAP, Teamcenter, or similar).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and quality-focused mindset.
  • Willingness to learn tools, systems, and engineering processes.

The hourly pay range for this position is $25.00 per hour for first time Interns or $26.00 per hour for returning Interns. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location. Additionally, interns for Siemens are eligible to contribute into our 401K program.
