To thrive as an Internship Audio Visual Technician, you need a foundational understanding of audio and video equipment, basic troubleshooting skills, and usually a high school diploma or enrollment in a related program. Familiarity with industry tools such as microphones, mixing consoles, projectors, and editing software is often required, and some positions may prefer candidates with AV certifications like AVIXA’s CTS. Strong communication, teamwork, and time management skills help interns adapt quickly and support live events or technical setups efficiently. These abilities are essential to ensure smooth operation of AV systems and to provide high-quality support in dynamic environments.
As an Internship Audio Visual Technician, you’ll assist with the setup, operation, and breakdown of audio and visual equipment for meetings, events, or classrooms. Typical tasks include running cables, testing microphones, setting up projectors or displays, and providing on-the-spot technical support. You may also help with routine maintenance and inventory of equipment, and occasionally shadow or support senior AV staff on larger projects. This role offers hands-on learning and exposure to real-world AV challenges in a collaborative team environment.
