Job description


The Audio-Visual (AV) Event Technician is an essential member of the Fluegel Alumni Center (FAC) staff. This role works closely with the FAC Events and Operations team and coordinates with the IT team to utilize the facility's existing technology to support the needs of clients hosting events at the FAC.

Located in Annapolis, MD, the Fluegel Alumni Center is a state-of-the-art, 60,000 square foot building adjacent to the U.S. Naval Academy. Opened in September 2023, the center brings together over 100 staff members in one location to engage and welcome USNA alumni, parents, and guests.

The position of Audio-Visual Event Technician has an hourly rate of $29.80.

Role and Reporting Structure

This is a client-facing position, where strong customer service experience is essential. The Events and Operations team support the entire Enterprise. The AV Event Technician will report to the Director of Operations and will work closely with the Events staff and private clients who book events at the Fluegel Alumni Center. This is a part-time position where hours will be determined based on event business and will require a flexible schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Support all events hosted at the Fluegel Alumni Center (FAC).
  • Demonstrate familiarity with systems such as Creston, Biamp, Robin, App Space and others.
  • Set up, maintain, and operate all AV equipment within the FAC.
  • Collaborate with event planners to tailor and configure meeting spaces according to client requirements.
  • Coordinate digital signage throughout the FAC for events and meetings, based on client and planner requests.
  • Provide on-site support for events during both business hours and at nights and weekends as needed.
  • Coordinate with AV vendors and production companies contracted to support large-scale events at the FAC.
  • Ensure all AV setups meet the quality and safety standards of both the FAC and clients.
  • Work with the IT team regarding equipment upgrades, infrastructure needs, and network troubleshooting.
  • Be proficient with Microsoft software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Provide training for the Events and Operations team on current AV systems and technology and recommend upgrades or improvements to enhance the client experience.
  • Uphold the mission of the Enterprise by using appropriate technology, security, and software platforms.
Qualifications
  • Experience working with audio visual equipment.
    • Venue or hotel banquet experience is a plus.
    • Experience with other venue AV control systems.
  • Ability to support events during nights and weekends with flexible scheduling.
  • Familiarity with event management software such as Tripleseat, Cvent, and Toast.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Willingness to learn on the job, adapt to client requests, and help upgrade and improve all client experiences.
  • Ability to lift, move and replace equipment as needed.
  • Solid problem analysis and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Effective communication skills and a collaborative team player.
