Summary:
Person is responsible for the daily operation of a continuous flow HMA plant.Individual shall interact with customers, paving fore-people, aggregate and AC truckdrivers.Plant operator shall be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the HMA operation on a daily basis.Individual will also perform repair and maintenance duties that include cutting, welding and metal fabrication.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In this SkillBridge internship, the candidate is expected to develop and apply a diverse set of skills while working closely with the plant foreperson. Throughout the internship, the candidate is anticipated to:
  • Gain hands-on experience assisting the plant foreperson in the daily operations and maintenance of the plant.
  • Develop proficiency in inspecting and performing maintenance on various plant parts, including the ability to undertake other on-site maintenance duties as directed by supervisors.
  • Acquire skills in maintaining and operating front-end loaders to contribute to the smooth functioning of the plant.
  • Learn to access all areas of the plant to conduct necessary maintenance and repairs, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Obtain knowledge of relevant regulations governing asphalt plant production, safety, environmental standards, and company policies. The candidate is expected to ensure observance of these regulations and strive for compliance with all permit conditions.
  • Build competence with computers, gaining a thorough understanding of window-based programs, and becoming familiar with the operation of programmable logic controllers.
  • Develop practical skills in welding, fabrication, and electrical tasks, addressing the specific needs of the plant.
  • Cultivate the ability to detect safety hazards and equipment malfunctions, responding promptly and effectively.
  • Enhance the capacity to follow directions accurately and efficiently, contributing to the overall effectiveness of plant operations.
  • Demonstrate accuracy in completing daily paperwork, encompassing plant production reports, material produced, sales reports, and nightly deposits from cash customers. The candidate is expected to learn and perform these tasks meticulously to support the plant's operational success.

  • Display aprofessional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and thegeneral public at all times.
  • Must be willing to travel and workaway from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights andweekends when necessary.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to perform basic mathematical skills.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to wet, humid condition airborne particles, and extreme heat or cold.The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud and may require protective equipment.
