Job description

Millions of customers rely on Amazon Photos to preserve their most cherished memories. We're looking for a talented engineer to make that experience dramatically better across Alexa-enabled devices. In this role, you'll design and deliver innovative AI-driven features for customer-facing applications on devices like Echo Show and Fire TV, combining rapid development with technical excellence to create experiences customers love.
You'll work at the intersection of AI innovation and device software engineering, solving complex problems in application development while collaborating with product managers, UX designers, and quality assurance engineers. This is an opportunity to make a tangible impact on how customers interact with their photos and videos, while growing your technical leadership and driving improvements to development tools and quality processes that enable faster customer value delivery.
Key job responsibilities
- Design, implement, test, and optimize device application software to deliver new and improved photos experiences across Amazon devices
- Actively participate in the code review process, providing meaningful feedback to peers and contributing to the full software development lifecycle including scoping, design, testing, deployment, and maintenance
- Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and quality assurance engineers to iterate on customer experiences and ensure high-quality delivery of front-end features
- Mentor junior engineers on the team through knowledge-sharing, documentation, and training on how software is developed, tested, and operated
- Take on progressively larger scope features and lead development of new AI-driven photos experiences, ensuring operational excellence and identifying opportunities to improve team processes and tools
A day in the life
Your day begins by reviewing design specifications and collaborating with UX designers to refine the user experience for a new photo memories feature. You'll spend time writing and optimizing code for native device applications, ensuring smooth performance across different device types. Between implementation sessions, you'll participate in code reviews, offering constructive feedback to teammates and learning from senior engineers. You'll also dedicate time to mentoring a junior engineer, helping them understand the architecture and best practices. Throughout the day, you'll work closely with product managers and QA engineers to iterate on features, troubleshoot issues, and plan upcoming releases that will delight customers.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience with front-end software development
- Experience with Android, iOS or other mobile application development or testing

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
