Location: Reno, Nevada

Shift: Swing Shift - Friday through Tuesday; 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.

About the Opportunity

The GOR Group is partnering with a rapidly growing leader in ultra-high-density, liquid-cooled data center infrastructure to identify an Engineer, Data Center Operations.

Our client supports the deployment of next-generation AI, high-performance computing, and advanced infrastructure environments through modern, highly efficient data centers capable of supporting significant power densities.

As the organization continues to expand its national footprint, this role will play an important part in supporting safe, reliable, and efficient data center operations.

Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Engineer, Data Center Operations to support daily operations within a high-density, mission-critical environment.

This position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, supporting customer deployments, monitoring infrastructure systems, and helping ensure uptime across electrical, mechanical, and IT equipment.

The ideal candidate is technically curious, reliable, safety-focused, and eager to continue developing within a fast-paced operations environment. You will work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to maintain site performance, resolve issues, and deliver an exceptional customer experience.

Key Responsibilities Operational Support & Daily Activities
  • Perform day-to-day operational tasks including equipment installation, racking and stacking, cabling, labeling, and facility rounds.
  • Execute preventative maintenance procedures and support corrective maintenance activities under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Assist with monitoring and operating Building Management Systems (BMS), Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), and ticketing platforms.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Methods of Procedure (MOPs), and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs) to ensure safe and consistent work execution.
Infrastructure Monitoring & Issue Resolution
  • Monitor power, cooling, and IT systems to ensure stable performance and identify potential issues early.
  • Assist in troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and IT infrastructure incidents.
  • Escalate equipment or system issues to senior engineers in a timely, concise, and accurate manner.
  • Support efforts to maintain uptime and operational reliability across mission-critical infrastructure.
Customer Support & Remote Hands Services
  • Provide professional and timely remote hands support, including power cycling, cable tracing, hardware swaps, and visual inspections.
  • Communicate clearly with customers and internal teams to ensure service requests are completed accurately.
  • Contribute to a positive customer experience through responsiveness, professionalism, and attention to detail.
Documentation, Compliance & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate logs, checklists, and operational records for audits, compliance, and operational transparency.
  • Document system changes, maintenance activities, and incidents in accordance with established processes.
  • Support asset tracking, inventory management, and spare parts organization.
  • Ensure documentation is accurate, complete, and maintained in accordance with operational standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work alongside Senior Engineers, Facilities, Engineering, and Customer Success teams to support operational readiness and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in project-based activities including new customer deployments, infrastructure upgrades, and capacity expansions.
  • Provide input on workflow improvements, operational procedures, and safety practices.
  • Collaborate across teams to help maintain a safe, efficient, and high-performing data center environment.
Key Skills
  • Solid understanding of electrical, mechanical, or IT infrastructure fundamentals, including power distribution, cooling systems, cabling, and server hardware.
  • Ability to follow technical procedures, safety protocols, and detailed step-by-step documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting instincts with an eagerness to learn complex systems in high-density environments.
  • Experience using, or willingness to learn, BMS, CMMS, infrastructure monitoring platforms, and ticketing systems.
  • Detail-oriented approach to inspections, documentation, maintenance, and compliance activities.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for both internal updates and customer interactions.
  • Strong teamwork mentality with the ability to take direction and collaborate effectively.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, mission-critical environments where safety, accuracy, and reliability are essential.
Required Experience
  • 2-4+ years of experience within data center operations, critical facilities, telecommunications, or a related technical operations environment.
  • Hands-on experience with cabling, equipment installation, preventative maintenance, or infrastructure support.
  • Familiarity with power, cooling, and IT systems within a production or mission-critical environment.
  • Experience using ticketing systems, monitoring tools, or facility management platforms preferred.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, respond to incidents, and support 24/7 operations as required.
