Primary Purpose:
Provide students with rigorous classroom and hands-on instruction in agricultural mechanics, welding, fabrication, agricultural structures, equipment design, repair, and maintenance. Serve as an FFA Advisor and support a comprehensive agricultural science program that integrates classroom instruction, supervised agricultural experiences, FFA leadership, and competitive events. Oversee agricultural mechanics projects, prepare and accompany students to welding and agricultural mechanics competitions, assist students with animal and other SAE projects, and share responsibility for the care, operation, and maintenance of the district agricultural barn and related facilities.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
ย Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements, or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI).
ย Demonstrated competency in agricultural mechanics, welding, fabrication, and agricultural science.
ย Valid Texas driver license and ability to meet district requirements for operating district vehicles, trailers, and equipment as assigned.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
ย Knowledge of Agricultural, Food, and Natural Resources curriculum, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, and effective CTE instructional practices. (preferred).
ย Knowledge of welding processes, metal fabrication, agricultural structures, tools, machinery, equipment maintenance, and shop safety.
ย Ability to teach and enforce safe operation of welding equipment, cutting equipment, power tools, machinery, and agricultural equipment.
ย Knowledge of FFA programs, leadership development events (LDEs), career development events (CDEs), speaking development events (SDEs), supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs), livestock shows, and agricultural mechanics competitions. (preferred).
ย Ability to supervise students working with livestock and agricultural projects and to assist with the operation of an agricultural barn.
ย Ability to manage student behavior, budgets, inventory, facilities, travel, and program records.
ย Strong organizational, communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Experience:

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Curriculum and Instruction:
1.ย Develop and implement lesson plans and instructional activities aligned with district curriculum, TEKS, CTE program standards, and campus expectations.
2.ย Teach assigned agricultural mechanics courses, including instruction in welding, metal fabrication, agricultural structures, electrical systems, hydraulics, small engines, equipment design, repair, and maintenance as appropriate to the course sequence.
3.ย Provide a balance of classroom instruction, demonstrations, laboratory activities, and project-based learning that prepares students for postsecondary training and careers in agriculture, manufacturing, construction, and skilled trades.
4.ย Differentiate instruction and provide required accommodations and modifications for individual student needs.
5.ย Conduct ongoing assessment of student knowledge and hands-on skill development and maintain accurate records of student progress.
6.ย Prepare students for applicable industry-based certifications and technical assessments, including district-designated AWS welding certifications such as D9.1 and D1.1 when assigned.
Agricultural Mechanics Projects and Welding Competitions:
7.ย Plan, supervise, and evaluate student agricultural mechanics projects from design and material selection through fabrication, finishing, documentation, exhibition, and completion.
8.ย Establish project approval procedures, work schedules, material requirements, safety expectations, and quality standards for student-built projects.
9.ย Prepare students and teams for welding contests, agricultural mechanics competitions, project shows, and other approved skills competitions.
10.ย Accompany and supervise students at local, area, regional, and state welding competitions and agricultural mechanics shows as assigned, including sanctioned stock show project competitions.
11.ย Coordinate with students, parents, other agricultural science teachers, and district staff on project transportation, loading, unloading, exhibition, and return of projects and equipment.
12.ย Evaluate competition results and student performance and use results to improve instruction, team preparation, and program growth.
FFA Advisor Responsibilities:
13.ย Serve as an advisor to the Diboll FFA Chapter and work collaboratively with the agricultural science department to maintain an active, student-centered FFA program.
14.ย Assist with the planning, training, and supervision of assigned LDE, CDE, and SDE teams and share competitive event responsibilities as established by the agricultural science department and district administration.
15.ย Support FFA officers, chapter meetings, the Program of Activities, leadership development, community service, fundraising, degree and award applications, scholarships, and chapter recognition programs.
16.ย Encourage broad student participation in FFA and provide students with leadership, career exploration, and service opportunities.
17.ย Accompany and supervise students at FFA contests, conventions, leadership activities, livestock shows, agricultural mechanics shows, workshops, and other approved events.
18.ย Coordinate competition and activity logistics, including registrations, eligibility documentation, travel requests, transportation, lodging, meals, equipment, and required parent communication.
19.ย Promote FFA activities and student accomplishments through district-approved communication channels and coordinate publicity with campus and district administration.
Supervised Agricultural Experiences, Animal Projects, and Ag Barn:
20.ย Assist students in selecting, planning, documenting, and evaluating supervised agricultural experience projects, including agricultural mechanics, livestock, and other approved SAE projects.
21.ย Assist students with animal projects through instruction and guidance related to selection, feeding, daily care, health, record keeping, fitting, show preparation, animal welfare, and project completion, in collaboration with other agricultural science teachers.
22.ย Conduct project checks, conferences, and site visits when appropriate and communicate with students and parents regarding project expectations and concerns.
23.ย Share responsibility for the operation, care, cleanliness, safety, and general condition of the district ag barn, animal pens, storage areas, trailers, and related agricultural facilities.
24.ย Enforce district ag barn rules and student agreements, including expectations for sanitation, pen care, feed and equipment storage, animal welfare, facility access, and student conduct.
25.ย Develop and supervise student work schedules for routine barn and facility cleaning and assist with reporting maintenance, repair, equipment, and supply needs to administration.
26.ย Assist students with approved livestock shows, validations, weigh-ins, project transportation, and exhibition activities as assigned.
Shop, Equipment, and Facility Management:
27.ย Maintain a safe, orderly, and instructionally effective agricultural mechanics shop and laboratory.
28.ย Require students to complete appropriate safety instruction and testing before operating tools, welding equipment, machinery, or other shop equipment.
29.ย Enforce use of required personal protective equipment and all district, manufacturer, and industry safety procedures.
30.ย Inspect, maintain, and arrange for repair of tools, welders, cutting equipment, machinery, ventilation systems, trailers, and agricultural equipment used by the program.
31.ย Maintain accurate inventory records for fixed assets, tools, consumables, materials, gases, equipment, and student project supplies.
32.ย Store welding cylinders, fuels, chemicals, materials, and hazardous products according to district procedures and applicable safety requirements.
33.ย Take reasonable precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, materials, animals, and facilities from injury, loss, or damage.
Student Growth, Management, and Supervision:
34.ย Create a classroom, shop, barn, and competition environment conducive to learning, responsibility, teamwork, and safe work practices.
35.ย Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct, student handbook, campus procedures, and district policy.
36.ย Serve as a positive role model and mentor for students pursuing careers and postsecondary training in agriculture, welding, manufacturing, construction, and related fields.
37.ย Supervise students at all assigned on-campus and off-campus agricultural science and FFA activities, including after-school, evening, weekend, and extended travel events.
38.ย Supervise assigned teacher aides, student workers, volunteers, or other personnel when assigned.
Communication, Community, and Industry Partnerships:
39.ย Maintain professional communication with students, parents, colleagues, administrators, community members, and industry partners.
40.ย Work collaboratively with other agricultural science teachers to coordinate curriculum, FFA responsibilities, student projects, competitions, facilities, equipment, and major events.
41.ย Develop and maintain relationships with local employers, agricultural organizations, welding and manufacturing partners, postsecondary institutions, and advisory committee members.
42.ย Identify opportunities for guest speakers, field trips, job shadowing, work-based learning, community projects, and other career-connected learning experiences.
Budget, Records, and Administrative Responsibilities:
43.ย Identify program equipment, material, consumable, and facility needs and submit requests according to district purchasing procedures.
44.ย Maintain required student, competition, project, inventory, safety, certification, travel, and program records.
45.ย Complete required FFA, CTE, campus, district, and state reports, applications, documentation, and deadlines.
46.ย Coordinate fundraising activities and related records in accordance with district procedures when assigned.
47.ย Keep campus and district administration informed of major events, travel, student concerns, facility or equipment issues, and emergencies.
Professional Growth and Other Duties:
48.ย Participate in professional development related to agricultural science, welding, CTE instruction, FFA, safety, industry certifications, and assigned job responsibilities.
49.ย Attend faculty, department, advisory committee, and other meetings as required.
50.ย Comply with all state, district, and campus policies, procedures, safety protocols, and emergency procedures.

Compensation/Salary:
Salary based on the Diboll ISD Teacher Salary Schedule (217 Day Schedule). Qualified candidates may receive salary placement credit for related industry/work experience on a one-year-for-one-year basis, in accordance with district guidelines. Supplemental stipends may also be assigned based on applicable responsibilities and additional duties associated with the position.ย Eligible teachers may earn additional annual compensation through the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA), with allotments ranging from $3,000 to $36,000 based on designation.ย
