Job Description
The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a full-time Research Associate Professor in the appointment stream to contribute to and advance research in psychiatric illness and mental health.
The incumbent's responsibilities will include:
  • Conducting independent and collaborative research focused on the neurobiological substrates of complex human cognitive functions and how alterations in these systems contribute to cognitive dysfunction.
  • Developing and leading innovative research initiatives, including the design, execution, and dissemination of research studies.
  • Preparing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and serving as a co-investigator on externally funded research projects.
  • Providing scientific leadership within a multidisciplinary research environment.
  • Overseeing aspects of laboratory operations, including project management, supervision of research staff, and mentorship of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior investigators.
  • Ensuring all research activities are conducted in accordance with university, federal, and other applicable guidelines governing the responsible conduct of research.

The search committee will primarily be looking for demonstrated experience in:
  • Leading collaborative research initiatives and contributing substantially to a strong publication record.
  • Contributing to extramural research funding.
  • Scientific leadership and effective collaboration within interdisciplinary research teams.
  • Demonstrated excellence in mentoring and training students, trainees, and research staff.

Successful candidates will join a vibrant and highly interactive research community with a long history of excellence in basic and translational neuroscience research.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Neuroscience, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in psychiatry research, as evidenced by a sustained record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Evidence of scholarly achievement and research impact.
  • Evidence of success in contributing to competitive research funding.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and growing academic environment.
