Job description

Description
The Materials Engineering Group of Sargent & Lundy (S&L) is currently seeking an experienced Materials or Welding Engineer with significant Welding, Nondestructive Examination (NDE), and Quality Control (QC) experience. This position will offer the opportunity to utilize and expand your engineering background by providing technical support in a professional services environment. Your primary roles will be welding, NDE, QC, and materials related technical project support activities for internal (S&L) and external clients - primarily supporting the power and related industries. In this role, you will be expected to effectively lead, review, and perform project related activities while also working with project teams on diverse activities such as:
  • Failure evaluation
  • Material selection, evaluation, and support
  • Metallurgical / heat treatment analysis
  • Welding design evaluation support
  • Development, execution, and review of welding procedures
  • Vendor shop oversite / surveillance / expediting
  • Nondestructive Examination / Testing (NDE / NDT) review, evaluation, and support
  • QC program / plan review and development
  • Factory Acceptance Testing support
  • Corrosion evaluation and support
  • Coating evaluation, selection, and support
  • Special Process Support

Other duties of the position may include:
  • Managing materials and related personnel
  • Training employees
  • Special process program / procedure review and development
  • Technical specification development and support
  • Technical report preparation and review
  • Document review
  • Data analysis and trending
  • Recommending / evaluating test data
  • Failure / causal analysis

The focus of these activities are engineering, design, and consulting. The position may involve approximately 10-15 % domestic and potential international travel to company locations and related supplier facilities for the purposes of vendor surveillance / expediting, witness of factory testing, and/or inspection activities.
This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of spending three days a week in the office, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.
Dependent upon your location, this opportunity offers a generous relocation package.
Qualifications
We do not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position.
Essential skills and experience:
  • BS or MS from an ABET-accredited engineering program or related academic experience
  • 5 or more years of experience in welding, NDE techniques / performance, QC, and materials / metallurgy / welding
  • One of the following certifications:
    • American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
    • ASNT Level II NDT Certification(s) - VT, MT, PT, RT, UT, or ET
    • AMPP Coating Inspection certification or related qualification
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical reasoning

Valued but not required skills and experience:
  • Previous NDE, Welding, or QC Program Manager experience.
  • Experience in the power (fossil or nuclear) or related industries.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and designation as an Engineer in Training or a Professional Engineering (PE) License.
