Job description

Principal Risk Specialist

As a Principal Risk Associate at Capital One you'll be responsible for working with business partners to identify and mitigate potential risks.

Principal Risk Associates at Capital One are highly motivated Risk Management professionals with excellent organizational and communication skills. They have a high level of interaction across lines of business and have the opportunity to create and implement innovative solutions to identify and mitigate potential risks to the Company. Regulatory Change Specialists within the HR Risk Office focus on collaborating across multiple stakeholder groups to ensure documentation of compliance with applicable laws and regulations as relates to International Regulatory impacts for Human Resources, which includes the documentation of any implementation needed to ensure compliance. Additionally, the Reg Change Specialist will have a keen eye for process improvement and efficiency, with a very strong customer focus.

As a Principal Associate in HR Risk, you will:

  • Partner with HR, Global Policy Affairs Group (GPAG), Legal and Compliance stakeholders as relates to the Regulatory Change process, fostering strong stakeholder relationships

  • Client Management - Develop and leverage key relationships with stakeholders that enable collaboration across the enterprise

  • Business Implementation - Identify and track implementation plans to mitigate risk to Capital One.

  • Support process improvement initiatives, driving efficiency and clarity for internal customers

  • Manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines, independently and with team collaboration

  • Other risk efforts, including but not limited to: Audit/Exams support, Reporting and supporting the other risk management tasks as needed

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of experience in process management, risk management, product management, or operations

  • At least 1 year of experience in Compliance, Legal or Risk Management

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in risk management, financial services, technology, or product management

  • 3+ years of experience in Human Resources

  • Professional certifications (i.e., Business Process Management certification, Lean or Green Belt Certification, SHRM, CERP, CRCM, etc.)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $120,800 - $137,900 for Principal Risk Specialist


Richmond, VA: $109,900 - $125,400 for Principal Risk Specialist










Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
