We are seeking a Maintenance Technician IIto join our rapidly growing team.

The Opportunity:

Join our LA Memorial Coliseum team as a Maintenance Technician II, where you'll apply and expand your skills across multiple trades including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, locksmithing, and painting. This hands-on role offers the opportunity to work independently and collaboratively.

The Accountabilities:

  • Performs a variety of maintenance tasks until proficiency is attained in all designated trade areas such as electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, carpentry, locksmith or painting independently or as part of a team, as assigned.
  • Repairs and/or replaces equipment and equipment components.
  • Determines if equipment should be repaired or replaced. Estimates materials required for specific job components.
  • Uses hand-held and power tools and equipment in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Prepares reports and/or maintenance records, as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

The Qualifiers:

  • Minimum Education: Less than High School
  • Minimum Experience: 1 year
  • Minimum Field of Expertise:
    • Demonstrated proficiency in Level I tasks. Successful work history. Thorough knowledge of the job components for completion of projects in trade areas e.g. methods, tools, materials and equipment. Thorough knowledge of standard safety practices and equipment and other requirements for workplace safety.
    • Valid CA driver's license required. Position will participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System. A copy of DMV record will be required as a final condition of employment. For more information please visit thepolicy website.

  • Working knowledge of building systems, life safety systems, and preventative maintenance practices.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions in fast-paced operational environments.
  • Experience coordinating maintenance priorities to minimize operational disruptions and maintain service levels.
  • Proven ability to perform skilled maintenance work with limited supervision while maintaining safety and compliance standards.
  • Experience reducing reliance on outside vendors through strong in-house technical capabilities and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while managing multiple priorities and urgent maintenance requests.
  • Strong commitment to operational efficiency, system reliability, and customer service excellence.

The hourly rate range for this position is $27.79 - $30.66. When determining an offer, the University of Southern California considers factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education, training, key skills, internal peer alignment, applicable laws, contractual requirements, grant funding, and market conditions.

Minimum Education: Less than high school
Minimum Experience: 1 year
Minimum Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in Level I tasks. All skill assessments required for Level I must be passed at a 100%. Successful work history. Basic knowledge of the job components for completion of projects in trade areas e.g. methods, tools, materials and equipment. Working knowledge of most trade tools. General knowledge of standard safety practices and equipment.
Preferred Education: High school or equivalent
Preferred Skills: Experience in a university support position. General knowledge of all campus buildings. Ability to read and write in English.
