What is international fundraising?

International fundraising refers to the process of raising funds from donors, organizations, or governments across different countries to support projects, charities, or causes with a global impact. Professionals in this field develop and implement strategies to engage international donors, manage cross-border legal and financial considerations, and build relationships with stakeholders worldwide. The role often involves travel, cultural sensitivity, and knowledge of international fundraising laws and best practices. Success in international fundraising can help organizations expand their reach and make a broader impact.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in international fundraising, and why are they important?

Success in International Fundraising requires expertise in donor relations, cross-cultural communication, and a solid understanding of global development or non-profit sectors, often supported by a degree in international relations, communications, or related fields. Familiarity with donor management systems (CRMs), proposal-writing tools, and sometimes certifications like CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) are commonly needed. Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and the ability to build trust across diverse cultures set top fundraisers apart. These skills are vital to securing funding and building sustainable partnerships in a competitive and multicultural global environment.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in international fundraising roles, and how can they be addressed?

International Fundraising professionals often encounter challenges such as navigating diverse cultural expectations, managing language barriers, and adapting strategies to different legal and regulatory environments. To address these, it's important to develop strong cross-cultural communication skills, stay updated on international fundraising regulations, and build relationships with local partners who understand the regional landscape. Collaborating closely with program teams and local stakeholders can also help ensure that fundraising campaigns are culturally appropriate and effective.

Job description

Who We Are
Come and See exists to invite everyone to encounter Jesus through exceptional storytelling that brings the Bible to life. We are the foundation behind The Chosen - the first-ever multi-season series about the life of Jesus - which has reached millions around the world with authentic, high-quality storytelling.
Our mission has four objectives: complete all seven seasons of The Chosen, translate the series into 600 languages, make it globally accessible, and keep it forever free - so the greatest story ever told can reach the first billion people. We believe excellence isn't vanity; it's our offering. And we do it together, as collaborators in a mission that matters.
This is more than media. It's invitation and we'd love for you to be part of it.
About the Role
Come and See is building a world-class international fundraising capability and we're looking for a Senior International Development Director to help lead it. In this role, you'll cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of 125+ international major-gift supporters and prospects (gifts of $25K+), with a goal of generating $5M+ in annual philanthropic revenue in support of our mission.
You'll build long-term relationships with supporters across Western Europe, Asia-Pacific, South Africa, and Canada who believe in expanding the reach of the Gospel through The Chosen. Working alongside our Chief Development Officer, Senior Advisor for International Development, Global Ambassadors, and Global Distribution teams, you'll turn strategic introductions into sustained philanthropic partnerships.
You in a nutshell: a driver and self-starter who isn't afraid to tackle big goals and build relationships across cultures and geographies. You love people and are energized by helping supporters connect their resources to Kingdom impact. You understand that you are a bridge between supporters and the mission - and you're equally comfortable sitting across the table from a donor in London, Singapore, Toronto, or Cape Town.
What You'll Do
Fundraising & Donor Solicitation
  • Build and manage a portfolio of 125+ international major-gift supporters and prospects, securing five-, six-, and seven-figure gifts from individuals, families, organizations, and foundations.
  • Meet an annual goal exceeding $5M through major gifts, stock gifts, donor-advised funds, qualified charitable distributions, foundations, and other philanthropic vehicles.
  • Develop donor-centric moves-management plans that advance supporters from introduction to long-term partnership and grow annual giving through intentional stewardship.
  • Coordinate strategic asks involving executive leadership, board members, Global Ambassadors, subject-matter experts, and ministry partners.
  • Own all portfolio stewardship, follow-up, cultivation, solicitation, and donor engagement.

Prospecting & Pipeline
  • Proactively identify and cultivate prospective supporters through networking, referrals, ministry relationships, donor introductions, events, and strategic partnerships.
  • Partner with Global Distribution teams, Equipping Centers, Global Ambassadors, and ministry partners to identify and qualify prospects, and convert opened doors into lasting partnerships.
  • Maintain a consistent pipeline of qualified international prospects, and collaborate with Marketing and Development leadership on bespoke, internationally tailored donor materials.

International Strategy & Growth
  • Support and shape regional fundraising strategies across assigned territories, aligning with Global Distribution priorities, Equipping Center opportunities, and international ministry partnerships.
  • Within the first year, develop recommendations on territory prioritization, international fundraising strategy, staffing needs, and future organizational structure.
  • Deepen relationships with key international giving organizations such as TrustBridge Global and the Maclellan Foundation's Giving Together Initiative.
  • Create scalable fundraising playbooks, donor engagement frameworks, and best practices, and help plan an International Vision Summit tied to the release of Season 6 or 7.

Travel & Donor Engagement
  • Develop a travel and meeting strategy across assigned territories, traveling extensively with a minimum of two visits annually to each major region.
  • Accompany executive and ministry leaders on strategic donor visits, vision trips, and international engagements.
  • Facilitate one-on-one meetings, donor experiences, set visits, screenings, and cultivation opportunities.

Serving as a Come and See Ambassador
  • Represent Come and See at donor meetings, events, and international ministry gatherings, connecting supporters with the right leaders and experts at the right time.
  • Shepherd a ministry of generosity among supporters through prayer, encouragement, relationship-building, and spiritual engagement.
  • Be a student of the Come and See mission, The Chosen, and international ministry opportunities, and build strong relationships across Development, Marketing, and Global Distribution.

What You Need to Succeed
Experience & Education
  • 7-10+ years of direct major-gift fundraising, with proven success securing five-, six-, and seven-figure gifts.
  • Demonstrated success in international major-gift fundraising.
  • Experience in nonprofit, faith-based, or mission-driven organizational development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Skills & Strengths
  • Highly relational, with the ability to engage supporters across diverse cultural and geographic backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to build and execute donor-centric moves-management strategies.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
  • Enthusiasm for frequent international travel.
  • A personal connection to The Chosen - this role calls for someone who has been personally impacted by the series.

Nice to Have
  • Experience working with globally mobile families, international family foundations, and international philanthropists.
  • Experience supporting or building international fundraising initiatives.
  • Experience within faith-based, ministry, or mission-driven organizations.

Our Beliefs, Culture & Commitment
At Come and See, every team member is a critical and valuable part of our mission and ministry. We consider ministry readiness and an individual's capacity to represent our culture and Christian beliefs during the selection process for all positions. An essential function of every role is to uphold and represent Jesus in how we live and behave.
While we unite around our mission, we know unity doesn't mean uniformity. Our calling is too great and our mission too important not to be intentional about strengthening our team with people from all backgrounds. We believe that varied perspectives - across race, ethnicity, life experience, age, and gender - enrich our ability to share the story of Jesus with the world and help everyone, everywhere, experience the authentic Jesus.
