Plum Borough School District is seeking a dedicated Food Service Employee to support the daily operation of our school cafeterias by preparing, serving, and cleaning up nutritious meals in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. This is a school-year, non-exempt position covered under the Plum Service Employees International Union Local 32BJ Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Position: Food Service Employee @ Plum Middle School (location is subject to change in the new school year)
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve nutritious breakfasts and lunches to students in accordance with federal nutrition guidelines.
  • Follow all Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) and HACCP food safety and handling regulations.
  • Complete food preparation tasks as assigned by the Cook Manager, including portioning, cooking, and assembling menu items.
  • Serve breakfast and lunch efficiently while maintaining a positive, customer-friendly attitude toward students and staff.
  • Clean and sanitize food preparation and serving areas, including equipment, utensils, and surfaces.
  • Properly store and label leftovers in compliance with safety and storage requirements.
  • Accurately record production data on daily production sheets and perform cashiering duties as assigned.
  • Assist with pre-preparation for future meal services, dispose of waste properly, and maintain cleanliness in all work areas.
  • Follow assigned station duties as directed and perform other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Prior food service experience preferred, ideally in a school cafeteria setting.
  • Ability to follow and give clear directions and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with district personnel, vendors, and stakeholders.

Physical and clearance requirements
  • Ability to sit for extended periods; lift, carry, push, or pull up to 35 pounds; and kneel, crouch, bend, and reach to handle materials and supplies.
  • Ability to speak clearly and distinctly and maintain adequate vision to perform duties.
