Position Description
Position Title: Development Intern
Group: Development
Location: Remote, USA (excluding New York state)
Reports To: Development Specialist
Status: Part-time, non-exempt
Duration: 3 months (10-20 hours/week)
Position Summary:
The Development Intern will support Winrock International's Development team with donor research, data management, donor profile development, proposal support, and donor-facing communications. The internship requires a dynamic, detail-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment. We are seeking an independent, engaged self-starter who is eager to gain hands-on experience and develop in-depth knowledge of the international development field. This internship offers meaningful exposure to fundraising strategy, donor engagement, and cross-functional collaboration with portfolio and program teams, while supporting efforts to communicate Winrock's mission and impact to external audiences.
Essential Responsibilities
1. Donor Research & Prospect Development
  • Support the Development Specialist and Director of Major Gifts with research on prospective individual, foundation, and institutional donors
  • Compile and synthesize information into donor profiles, prospect briefs, and portfolio materials
  • Support identification of new funding opportunities aligned with Winrock's programs and strategic priorities
  • Assist with maintaining accurate and current donor and prospect records

2. Data Entry & Database Support
  • Support the Development Specialist with maintaining donor, prospect, and engagement data in Winrock's donor database or CRM
  • Support data quality and data hygiene efforts, including reviewing records for accuracy and completeness
  • Assist with preparing basic reports, lists, and tracking tools for Development team use

3. Communications & Donor-Facing Materials
  • Support Development staff in developing clear, compelling communications to be shared with donors and prospects
  • Draft, edit, and format donor-facing content such as:
    • Impact updates and summaries
    • Program and project descriptions
    • Briefing materials and background documents
    • Stewardship and acknowledgement content
  • Ensure communications are aligned with Winrock's mission, voice, and branding guidelines

4. Administrative & General Development Support
  • Provide general administrative and project support to the Development team including calendar management and meeting coordination
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President, Development and/or the Director of Development Operations

Qualifications and Background:
Education
  • Senior-level undergraduate or graduate student
  • Academic focus in a field relevant to Winrock International's work, such as geography, international relations, political science, climate, environment, food systems, agriculture, entrepreneurship, or a related discipline

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
Required
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills (Writing example may be requested)
  • Strong analytical and research abilities
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a team
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion

Preferred
  • International experience
  • Familiarity with utilizing AI-assisted tools and resources
  • Experience preparing communications materials such as brochures, pamphlets, reports, or presentations
  • Experience writing or contributing to grant applications or proposals
  • Proven commitment to pursuing a career in international development
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint)
