Zayo is expanding our Communication team and seeking an Internal Communication Lead to support the development and execution of strategic communication programs that strengthen employee engagement, enhance organizational understanding, and reinforce company culture.
Our Internal Communication Lead role is ideal for a communication professional who combines exceptional writing and storytelling abilities with strong business acumen, stakeholder partnership skills, and a passion for creating engaging employee experiences. The successful candidate will bring experience developing strategic communication plans, managing internal communication channels, creating compelling digital content, and leveraging modern communication tools and technologies to drive employee understanding and engagement.
This role reports to the Head of Organizational Communication & Engagement and works closely with our Corporate Communication Sr. Manager and Sr. Internal Communication Program Manager.
Location:
This position may be performed remotely from anywhere within the United States. Because our headquarters is based in Denver, CO, candidates must be available to work primarily within Mountain Time Zone business hours (e.g. 8a - 5p MT).
Employees located within 30 miles of our Denver headquarters (1401 Wynkoop Street) are expected to work in a hybrid capacity, with a minimum of two days per week in the office.
Core Responsibilities:
Internal Communication & Content Strategy
  • Develop, write, and edit clear, compelling content for internal communication channels, including SharePoint/intranet and enterprise-wide campaigns.

  • Translate complex business, operational, or technical information into clear, engaging, employee-friendly communication.

  • Apply communication best practices, including audience segmentation, message mapping, channel planning, and storytelling techniques to maximize communication effectiveness.

Stakeholder Partnership & Employee Engagement
  • Build trusted partnerships with HR Business Partners, business leaders, and cross-functional teams to support organizational communication, employee engagement initiatives, events, and culture-building efforts.

SharePoint & Intranet Management
  • Manage, update, and optimize content within SharePoint to deliver a consistent, engaging, and user-friendly employee experience.

  • Own and maintain the intranet editorial calendar, ensuring timely and coordinated publication of content.

  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve content organization, accessibility, and employee engagement across internal communication platforms such as our intranet site (zHub).

Creative & Multimedia Content Development
  • Create visually compelling communication materials across multiple formats, including presentations, infographics, videos, and digital assets, using strong design principles to enhance clarity and engagement.

  • Drive video production efforts, including editing and post-production activities, to support organizational communication objectives.

  • Continuously elevate communication quality through innovative content formats, modern design approaches, and evolving communication trends.

Communication Analytics & Measurement
  • Measure communication effectiveness through engagement metrics, analytics, and employee feedback.

  • Monitor communication performance and recommend improvements to enhance employee understanding, engagement, and overall communication impact.

  • Leverage insights and data to continuously optimize communication strategies and content delivery.

AI & Emerging Technology
  • Maintain a strong understanding of emerging AI trends and applications, particularly as they relate to communication, content creation, and employee experience.

  • Leverage AI tools to enhance efficiency, insight generation, and content development where appropriate.

  • Avoid over-reliance on AI by balancing technology with originality, critical thinking, and a strong creative perspective.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in communication, Public Relations or related field. Minimum of five (5) years of internal communication, corporate communication, public relations, agency, or related experience.

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to communicate effectively across multiple audiences and formats. A writing assessment will be required during the interview process.

  • Demonstrated expertise in communication methodology, such as strategic messaging frameworks, change communication, audience segmentation, narrative development, and strategic communication planning.

  • Experience supporting employee communication and a strong understanding of how messaging influences employee engagement and experience.

  • Experience managing and publishing content within SharePoint or similar intranet platforms.

  • Experience creating digital communication assets, presentations, infographics, video content, and other visual communication materials.

  • Ability to simplify and communicate complex business or technical information in a clear and engaging manner.

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, collaborate across functions, and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

Estimated base salary range: $68,100 - $104,700 USD annually

The base pay range shown is a guideline and reasonable estimate for this role. It takes into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted range based upon geographic location, work experience, skill level, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Non- sales roles may be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive plan. Sales roles may be eligible to participate in a sales incentive plan.
Additionally, this position may be eligible for certain benefits, such as health insurance, life insurance, disability retirement plans, paid time off.
