Job description

Position: Editorial Intern

Department: National Defense 

Status: Temporary/Intern

Schedule: Up to 30 hours per week

National Defense provides the Editorial Intern with hands-on experience in the day-to-day operations of a monthly magazine and digital news platform. Working closely with the editorial team, the intern will contribute to both print and online content while developing practical journalism, editing, and publishing skills.

Responsibilities may include writing news stories for the magazine and website as assigned by the Editor in Chief, Managing Editor, or Senior Editor; editing and proofreading content; posting stories to the website; and assisting with production and editorial workflows. Reporting assignments may involve local travel to conferences, events, and industry activities within the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

This is an unpaid internship intended to provide meaningful professional development and exposure to editorial and publishing operations. Interns are expected to work onsite during scheduled hours unless attending an approved assignment or event outside the office.
