Job description

Veterinary Practice Manager

PetCare Veterinary Clinic | Roseville, CA

Salary: $75,000-$100,000 annually, based on experience, plus annual performance bonus (up to 15%)

Lead a Team. Build a Culture. Make a Difference.

Great veterinary hospitals don't happen by accident-they're built by exceptional leaders.

For nearly 30 years, PetCare Veterinary Clinic has been a trusted part of the Roseville community, providing compassionate care, exceptional medicine, and meaningful relationships with generations of pet owners.

We're looking for an experienced Practice Manager who believes leadership is about developing people, creating accountability, and building a workplace where talented veterinary professionals thrive.

This isn't simply an operations role.

It's an opportunity to lead an established, respected hospital in true partnership with an experienced medical team that's committed to exceptional patient care and an outstanding client experience.

If you're energized by coaching people, improving systems, solving problems face-to-face rather than over email, and celebrating team success, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do

As Practice Manager, you'll partner closely with the Medical Director to lead the daily operations of the hospital while ensuring an exceptional experience for patients, clients, and team members alike.

Leadership & Culture
  • Recruit, hire, coach, and retain an outstanding veterinary team.
  • Foster a culture built on trust, accountability, respect, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and performance coaching.
  • Develop future leaders within the hospital.
  • Handle difficult conversations, client complaints, and team conflict live and in person, following up in writing only to confirm what was already discussed.
Medical Director Partnership
  • Build a genuine, trust-based partnership with the Medical Director - this relationship is the single biggest driver of success in this role.
  • Co-own hospital direction and decisions rather than waiting for direction or deferring difficult calls.
  • Communicate proactively and directly, especially when priorities or expectations aren't yet aligned.
Hospital Operations
  • Oversee daily hospital operations and workflow.
  • Optimize scheduling and staffing.
  • Ensure operational consistency and efficiency.
  • Maintain inventory and vendor relationships.
  • Support a safe, organized, and compliant hospital environment.
Financial Leadership
  • Manage labor, inventory, and operating expenses.
  • Monitor hospital KPIs and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with the Medical Director to grow the practice while maintaining exceptional patient care.
  • Make data-driven decisions that strengthen both the business and the team.
Client Experience
  • Champion an exceptional client experience.
  • Support team members during busy periods.
  • Take ownership of client service, patient care, and employee engagement outcomes across the hospital.
  • Build lasting relationships within the Roseville community.
Who You Are

You're the kind of leader who naturally brings people together.

You lead with humility, communicate with honesty, and believe that accountability and compassion can exist side by side. You're comfortable stepping into a hard conversation in the moment rather than retreating to email when things get tense.

You probably have:

  • Veterinary hospital leadership experience
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams
  • Strong business and financial acumen
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills - and a demonstrated track record of resolving conflict and difficult conversations in person
  • High emotional intelligence
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • A passion for developing people
  • A continuous improvement mindset
  • Comfort operating within established, informal team norms while helping build clearer structure over time - you ask questions before assuming the written policy is the whole story

Experience managing a multi-doctor veterinary hospital and experience building a new partnership with clinical leadership are strongly preferred.

Why PetCare?

At PetCare Veterinary Clinic, you'll have the opportunity to lead a respected, established hospital while helping shape its future.

You'll also receive the support, leadership development, and operational resources of Veterinary Practice Partners while maintaining the culture and feel of a community veterinary practice.

This is a place where your ideas matter.

Where leadership is valued.

Where your work will directly impact patients, clients, and the people you lead every single day.

Benefits
  • $75,000-$100,000 annual salary
  • Annual performance bonus (up to 15%)
  • Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Paid Time Off and Paid Holidays
  • Employee pet care discounts
  • Continuing leadership development
  • Career advancement opportunities within Veterinary Practice Partners
This Role Is a Great Fit If You...
  • Love coaching and developing people.
  • Believe culture drives performance.
  • Enjoy solving operational challenges.
  • Use data to make decisions.
  • Stay calm under pressure - and stay present in it, rather than stepping back to handle things in writing.
  • Value teamwork over ego.
  • Lead by serving others.
  • Want to leave every hospital you lead better than you found it.
What Success Looks Like After Your First Year

After twelve months, you'll know you've been successful if:

  • Your team is more engaged, confident, and growing professionally.
  • Employee turnover has decreased because people genuinely enjoy coming to work.
  • Clients consistently recognize your team for exceptional service.
  • Hospital operations run smoothly, even during busy days.
  • Financial performance is improving because the team understands the "why" behind the goals.
  • You've built a strong partnership with the Medical Director based on trust, communication, and shared leadership - with real alignment on decisions, not just deference.
  • Most importantly, you've created a culture where people feel valued, supported, challenged, and proud to be part of PetCare Veterinary Clinic.
Ready to Build Something Great?

If you're looking for more than your next management position-if you're looking for the opportunity to build an exceptional team, create lasting impact, and lead with purpose-we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and help shape the future of PetCare Veterinary Clinic.
