Overview of the position:
Under the delegation and supervision of the registered nurse, the Student Nurse Intern will administer basic, direct and/or indirect patient care and perform various procedures and related services necessary to the care and needs of patients/customers. Performs clerical duties and other department functions as directed.
What is the Student Nurse Intern Program?
The Student Nurse Intern Program provides R.N. nursing students with the opportunity to gain experience, learn and practice new skills during hands-on patient care. Under the direct supervision of an R.N., the student nurse intern will apply their classroom knowledge in a healthcare setting. The position provides clinical exposure to skills and knowledge for their respective clinical areas of study.
Who is eligible?
Nursing students enrolled in a two-year or less program and are within nine months of graduation are eligible to apply for a position as a Student Nurse Intern. Applicants need to complete a Genesis employment application with an attached resume, an essay describing their nursing career goals and participate in a live panel interview.
What does a Student Nurse Intern do?
The student nurse intern will complete a minimum of five months rotating within the acute care service units, with the possibility of completing a rotation in specialty areas for the remaining months.
The student nurse intern can perform the following skills: • Personal patient care • Vital signs, FSBS, input/output • Bladder scan • Foley placement/Straight Cath • EKG's • Phlebotomy • Telemetry reading • Staff assistant tasks • Discontinue IV's • Dressing changes • Documentation of all tasks • Purposeful patient rounding • SMART equipment • Assist with literature review for EBP
What is the work schedule like?
The student nurse intern will work 16 hours per pay period with flexible scheduling (4, 8 or 12-hour shifts) to accommodate the school schedule. Interns will work two weekend shifts per six-week schedule and one holiday annually.
