Summary
The Maintenance Technician supports the upkeep and reliable operation of buildings, grounds, and event infrastructure across LAEC's 75-acre campus. Responsibilities include general facility repairs, operating tractors and light equipment, and maintaining surfaces and grounds for arenas and common areas, ensuring a safe, functional, and clean environment for guests, staff, and animals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on buildings, gates, fencing, doors, plumbing fixtures, lighting, and irrigation.
  • Conduct safety inspections; respond to and close maintenance requests promptly.
  • Repair/replace worn surfaces (mats, flooring, rails, fencing); perform minor carpentry/painting.
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of shared spaces (restrooms, clubrooms, walkways, barns).
  • Support event setup/breakdown (temporary fencing, bleachers, gates, signage).

Grounds & Surface Maintenance
  • Operate tractors and implements (drag/harrow, roller/compactor, box blade/arena groomer) to maintain consistent, safe riding/working surfaces and access roads.
  • Manage moisture and dust control (water truck/sprinklers/hoses) per daily schedules and weather.
  • Inspect surfaces; correct hazards (holes, ridges, contamination) and report base/grade issues.
  • Assist with basic grade checks; coordinate vendors when re-grade/resurfacing is required.

Equipment Operation & Care
  • Safely operate tractors (PTO/non-PTO), UTVs, skid steer/loader, forklifts (if certified), trailers, and power tools (pressure washers, drills, saws).
  • Perform daily/weekly checks (fluids, tires, grease points) and report service needs.

Safety & Emergency Response
  • Follow all safety policies and PPE requirements; identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Troubleshoot urgent facility issues; escalate to specialty vendors as needed.
  • Participate in on-call, weekend, holiday, and event coverage as assigned.

Inventory & Administration
  • Track materials and supplies; report shortages to Operations Manager.
  • Complete basic logs (drags/watering/inspections) and work orders.

Qualifications
  • 2+ years facility maintenance, groundskeeping, or operations experience in a large outdoor venue, campus, or similar environment.
  • Demonstrated tractor/grounds equipment operation required; water truck, skid-steer, and forklift experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and hand/power tools.
  • Comfortable working around animals and high-traffic public areas.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and follow-through; able to read/follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable MVR required; forklift/skid-steer certification a plus.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US

Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required; trade/vocational training a plus.

Skills and Abilities
  • Strong work ethic, safety mindset, and attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-moving, event-driven environment.
  • Professional interaction with colleagues, vendors, and clients.

Physical Demands
  • Lift 50 lbs. regularly (up to 75 lbs. with assistance).
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, climbing, kneeling, pushing/pulling.
  • Outdoor work in heat/cold/dust; prolonged equipment operation.

Work Environment
  • Mixed indoor/outdoor across buildings, arenas/fields, workshops, and service yards.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, odors, animals, uneven terrain, and moving vehicles/equipment.
  • PPE and safety protocols required at all times.
