Job description

The Construction Rental Equipment Intern will support the day-to-day operations of the One Call Rental, process within the company. This role offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in multiple departments including Yard, Driver, Credit, Service, Inside & Outside Sales, Operations, and Sales Management. It takes you through a touchpoint of every department through our rental process. The intern will assist with the coordination of equipment rentals, customer service, maintaining equipment readiness, processing orders, and supporting sales activities. This position provides valuable exposure to the construction equipment rental industry, offering a dynamic environment for personal and professional growth.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Yard Attendant:
    • Assist in the inspection, cleaning, and organization of rental equipment in the yard.
    • Ensure equipment is properly staged for delivery and pickup.
    • Help with inventory management and tracking of equipment availability.
    • Primary focus is to start with this equipment for 1 week and learn the equipment and basic operations
  • Driver Assistance:
    • Assist drivers in preparing equipment for delivery or pick-up.
    • Support in coordinating logistics for timely equipment transportation.
    • Help maintain equipment delivery schedules and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
    • Brief into to see the equipment leave yard and how it delivers to customers
  • Transportation Department:
    • Support reservation fulfilment
    • Work with internal drivers & external haulers
    • Communicate with rental operations
    • Manage cost efficiencies
  • Credit & Billing Support:
    • Assist with processing customer rental agreements and invoices.
    • Support the credit department in verifying customer accounts and payment processing.
    • Help track and report on overdue or past-due accounts.
  • Service and Maintenance Support:
    • Help with minor maintenance and cleaning of equipment to ensure readiness.
    • Assist in tracking service schedules for routine maintenance and repairs.
    • Aid the service department with basic troubleshooting and diagnostic support.
  • Sales and Operations Support:
    • Support the sales team by preparing rental quotes and assisting in customer inquiries.
    • Help with the tracking of sales leads and customer follow-ups.
    • Assist in data entry and preparing sales reports for management.
    • Gain exposure to inventory management and rental operation processes.
  • Sales Management Support:
    • Assist sales managers with organizing and prioritizing sales activities.
    • Help prepare sales presentations, proposals, and promotional materials.
    • Participate in customer meetings and assist in gathering feedback to enhance customer relationships.

Skills/Knowledge/Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Currently enrolled in a college or university program related to Construction Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a similar field.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Basic understanding of construction equipment and machinery is a plus.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
    • Experience with inventory management software or rental management systems is an advantage.
  • Interpersonal Skills:
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Ability to interact with customers and internal teams in a professional and courteous manner.
    • Team player with the ability to collaborate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Problem-Solving:
    • Ability to identify problems and assist in developing solutions.
    • Good organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure equipment and orders are handled efficiently.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to work outdoors and assist with equipment handling and yard maintenance.
    • Ability to lift and move equipment or materials as needed.
  • Desirable Qualities:
    • Strong interest in the construction or rental equipment industry.
    • Eagerness to learn about the rental business, sales, and customer service operations.
    • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities effectively.
