Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior IBM i & Power Systems Engineer to design, implement, administer, and support mission-critical IBM Power infrastructure supporting enterprise ERP environments.

This role is responsible for the full IBM Power ecosystem, including IBM Power hardware, IBM i operating systems, HMC, VIOS, IBM DS Storage, and High Availability/Disaster Recovery platforms. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with a passion for automation, observability, security, and continuous improvement.

As a senior member of the infrastructure team, you will serve as a technical leader, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to ensure system stability, performance, and modernization.

Key ResponsibilitiesPlatform Administration & Support
  • Administer and support IBM Power servers and IBM i operating system environments.
  • Manage Hardware Management Consoles (HMC), Virtual I/O Servers (VIOS), and IBM DS storage arrays.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex infrastructure, performance, security, and operational issues.
  • Perform system monitoring, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and capacity planning.
High Availability & Disaster Recovery
  • Design, implement, test, and support HA/DR solutions using MIMIX or similar technologies.
  • Ensure business continuity and ERP platform availability.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing activities.
Automation & Modernization
  • Develop and maintain automation solutions utilizing Ansible, CL scripting, and Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies.
  • Reduce manual effort through automation of patching, compliance, provisioning, and operational processes.
  • Support platform modernization initiatives.
Observability & AIOps
  • Implement and enhance observability, monitoring, and AIOps capabilities.
  • Improve system visibility, proactive issue detection, and incident response.
  • Reduce operational noise and improve mean time to resolution (MTTR).
Security & Compliance
  • Support platform security initiatives and compliance requirements.
  • Implement security best practices and automate compliance monitoring where possible.
  • Assist with vulnerability remediation and audit activities.
Leadership & Collaboration
  • Mentor team members and share technical expertise.
  • Partner with infrastructure, application, and business teams to support enterprise initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience administering enterprise IBM Power and IBM i environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • IBM Power Systems
    • IBM i OS
    • HMC (Hardware Management Console)
    • VIOS (Virtual I/O Server)
    • IBM DS Storage
    • MIMIX High Availability / Disaster Recovery
  • Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure and operating system issues.
  • Working knowledge of ITIL processes, incident management, and change management.
  • Experience with CL scripting and automation.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to participate in on-call support, maintenance windows, and occasional after-hours work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Experience implementing observability and AIOps solutions.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code and automation frameworks such as Ansible.
  • Familiarity with Fortra products including:
    • Alert
    • Console
    • Compliance Monitor
    • Exit Point Manager
  • Experience with platform security, governance, and compliance initiatives.
  • Experience leading modernization and operational excellence efforts within IBM i environments.
