Job description

Job Summary:  

The Food Safety & Quality Internship offers a hands-on opportunity for a college student to gain experience in food safety, quality systems, and dairy manufacturing. Past interns have completed projects such as environmental swab mapping and sample result comparison programs. In this role, you will support quality documentation, food safety initiatives, audits, investigations, and continuous improvement projects while collaborating with cross-functional teams. You will also gain valuable in-plant experience and develop a strong understanding of food safety regulations, quality programs, and dairy production processes. 

What you will be doing: 

  • Assist with updating and maintaining Quality Policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and other quality documentation. 
  • Partner with plant quality teams to ensure the documentation database remains accurate and up to date. 
  • Support Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) initiatives through research and program development activities. 
  • Help identify and implement programs that strengthen food safety and quality systems. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support quality and food safety objectives across the organization. 
  • Gain exposure to multiple areas of Grande’s Quality department and learn how they work together. 
  • Participate in a two-week, hands-on experience at Grande’s cheese and whey manufacturing plants to observe quality and food safety processes. 
  • Assist with product testing and quality evaluations related to positive hold and release initiatives, including sample coordination, data collection, and results analysis. 

This internship provides a unique opportunity to see how food safety and quality programs support day-to-day operations in a manufacturing environment. You'll build meaningful industry experience, expand your professional network, and gain practical insights that can help prepare you for a successful career in food science, safety, quality, food manufacturing, and much more.

What you need to be considered for the role: 

  • Student in Junior or Senior status pursuing a bachelor's degree in Food Science or Quality Assurance or other related field required. 

Preferred: 

  • Participative involvement in campus organizations, non-class related volunteer involvement, off-campus employment, and demonstrated leadership preferred. 
  • FSMA PCQI training preferred 
  • HACCP Certified 
  • Effective analytical and communication skills 
  • Basic statistics knowledge desirable
