Job description

Overview

Lutron is seeking an Industrial Engineering Intern to join our collaborative team based out of the Virginia Manufacturing Facility and contribute to high-impact projects. In this role, you will collaborate with product design and tooling teams to develop consumer products and design production processes that are efficient, manufacturable, and high-quality for Lutron's smart lighting and shading systems.

At Lutron, your interest in industrial engineering will grow through hands-on experience, practical skill-building, and collaboration with skilled industrial engineering professionals in a supportive environment.

We consider interns to be very valuable in our search for exceptional future members of our team and pride ourselves in providing outstanding work experience to students from a wide variety of universities and backgrounds.

Responsibilities

Your internship at Lutron could offer you the opportunity to work on:

  • Performing time studies and observing real assembly processes on the production floor to help improve workstation layout, flow, and ergonomics.

  • Creating and updating SOPs and visual work instructions by working directly with operators and engineers to document accurate, step-by-step processes.

  • Collecting and analyzing production data, running simple simulations, and supporting continuous improvement trials to boost efficiency and quality.

  • Driving active projects in partnership with cross functional teams

  • Learning and applying newly adopted tools and technologies to enhance system performance, reliability, and scalability

Qualifications

We seek talented, success-minded people with the desire and ability to make things happen. Our baseline requirements are simple:

  • You are a rising junior, rising senior, or master's student at the start of the internship

  • You have broad interests in engineering, design and development

  • You are authorized to work in the U.S. and will not require Lutron to sponsor you for any work visa, such as an H-1B, either immediately or at any time in the future. Lutron does not offer work visa sponsorship for this position

  • Willingness and ability to work on-site 5 days per week

Lutron is a team-oriented environment, and you will work within these teams to look at broad issues and identify root causes, not just quick fixes. You must have a willingness to ask tough questions, seek out new resources, and work hard to find the best solution.

Here is what you can expect from our internship program:
