Job Summary

As a Grain Elevator Manager I, you will lead the day-to-day operations of the elevator while fostering a safe, efficient, and team-focused environment. You will oversee grain handling operations, manage facility assets, and support the employees who keep the location running smoothly.

This role also plays an important part in commodity marketing. You will purchase grain and build strong working relationships with Producers, Merchandisers, and freight partners across the supply chain. Success in this position requires strong communication, collaboration, and the ability to balance operational oversight with customer relationships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform all duties safely and in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and secure facility
  • Provide professional and responsive customer service
  • Lead, train, and support location staff while promoting teamwork and accountability
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards; participate in audits as needed
  • Oversee grain merchandising activities and collaborate with the Merchandising team
  • Manage inventory, warehouse operations, and site security
  • Monitor grain quality and identify blending or optimization opportunities
  • Oversee equipment operations, coordinate preventative maintenance, and address mechanical issues
  • Recommend improvements to operational processes, equipment performance, and safety
  • Plan and coordinate daily work schedules
  • Ensure accurate payroll, production, and operational records
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required; four-year degree preferred
  • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education
  • 3–5 years of operations management or related experience, including employee supervision
  • Experience with safety compliance and basic mechanical maintenance required
  • Grain origination or grain marketing experience preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and operational software preferred
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read and understand operational and safety instructions
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of independent decision-making
  • Ability to work extended hours as business needs require
Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position involves both indoor and outdoor work and may require working in varying weather conditions. Employees may be exposed to grain dust and loud noise levels.

The role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, and working in confined spaces or at heights. Employees must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally more. Climbing ladders and riding lift equipment may be required.

Required personal protective equipment (PPE) includes hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes, respiratory protection, and hearing protection.

Employees must have adequate vision (including close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and color recognition), be able to detect odors, and respond to safety warnings.

Work hours may vary, and flexibility is required, including responding to business needs outside of standard hours.
