New York, NY / Hackensack, NJ
Salary: $120,000 - $130,000
Hybrid Schedule | Temp-to-Perm Opportunity
NY Wills & Estates is seeking an experienced Estate Planning Attorney to join our growing team. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to handle meaningful client work in probate, guardianships, estate planning, and Medicaid planning while collaborating closely with Managing Attorney Vlad Portnoy.
If you are an attorney who enjoys working directly with clients, managing estate matters from start to finish, and practicing in Surrogate's Court, this position offers a strong opportunity for professional growth in a supportive and highly professional environment.
This position begins as a temporary role with the intention of transitioning to a permanent position after a 90-day evaluation period.
Responsibilities
• Manage probate and estate administration matters in Surrogate's Court
• Draft wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare proxies
• Assist with Medicaid planning and eligibility strategies
• Draft and support special needs trusts
• Prepare and file Article 81 guardianship petitions
• Appear in Mental Hygiene Court when necessary
• Meet with clients and provide consultation regarding estate planning matters
• Draft petitions, motions, and supporting legal documents
• Manage deadlines and communications within the firm's case management system
• Conduct legal research and collaborate on case strategy
• Participate in weekly and monthly case review meetings
Qualifications
• Licensed attorney in New York or New Jersey
• 5-7 years of experience in estate planning, probate, or Surrogate's Court matters
• Strong client consultation and communication skills
• Experience drafting estate planning documents
• Ability to manage a varied caseload independently
• Highly organized and detail-oriented
Preferred Qualifications
• Licensed in both New York and New Jersey
• Experience with Medicaid planning
• Experience with Article 81 guardianships
• Special needs planning experience
• Litigation experience
