An Intern at a Custom Car Shop assists experienced technicians and fabricators with customizing, repairing, and restoring vehicles. Their responsibilities often include tasks like preparing materials, helping with bodywork, learning about paint and finishing techniques, and maintaining tools and equipment. Interns may also observe and participate in customer consultations to understand client requirements and the process of designing custom modifications. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience and teach the foundations of automotive customization.

What types of tasks and projects can an intern expect to work on in a custom car shop?

As an intern in a custom car shop, you can expect to assist with a variety of hands-on tasks, such as prepping vehicles for modifications, helping with basic mechanical work, and supporting more experienced technicians with custom fabrication or bodywork. Interns often help maintain tools, organize parts, and may also participate in brainstorming sessions for design ideas. You’ll gain exposure to specialized equipment and techniques while learning the workflow of custom builds, restorations, and upgrades. Collaboration is common, as you’ll be working closely with technicians, designers, and sometimes directly with customers to bring creative automotive visions to life.
