Cabarrus County Government announces the launch of our newly developed internship program. Interested in local government careers but not sure how to get started. The Cabarrus County Internship Program is a great way to learn about local government from some of the County's top talent.
Cabarrus County Internship Program offers students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with Cabarrus County Government through internship opportunities.
The purpose of this internship is to provide meaningful professional public administration experience to collegiate students with proven academic performance and a strong desire to learn and contribute.
Interns at Cabarrus County get career relevant hands-on learning opportunities in the local government sector and a meaningful internship experience that will support their academic, professional and personal development. Interns receive mentorship from some of Cabarrus County's top leaders.

We provide exciting opportunities in a variety of fields including:
- County Manager's Office
- Communications Department

- Business Services Department
Compensation: $15 per hour worked (internships are not eligible for benefits)
Schedule: Part-time Mon - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. - Hours and days will vary. Exact schedule, including remote work if available to be worked out with assigned department.
Duration: Most of Cabarrus County internships are expected to last for a duration of six-months pending availability of funds and continuation of the internship program. Internship Program may end at any time with or without notice.

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:
Conducting research and preparing materials; preparing documents and files; entering/updating information in various formats and systems

• Completes special projects as assigned.
• Gathers and compiles information.
• Prepares and presents reports and data.
• Produces a variety of documents, as maps, policies, procedures, programs, etc.
• Assists in the maintenance of information.
• Updates current information in existing formats and data systems.

• Meets with assigned mentor monthly or as requested.

County Manager's Office Duties:
The County Manager's Office internship offers hands-on experience in local government administration, project coordination, and cross-departmental collaboration, while providing firsthand experience in how County departments work together to accomplish County-wide priorities.

• Administrative Support: Assist with daily administrative tasks, meeting preparation, document organization, scheduling, and tracking action items.
• Project Management & Special Projects: Support County projects and strategic initiatives by tracking timelines, gathering updates, monitoring follow-up items, and assisting with special projects across the organization.
• Departmental Collaboration: Work with County departments to coordinate projects, gather information, and support communication and follow-up.

Communications Department Duties:
The Communications and Outreach internship offers hands-on experience.

• Storytelling: with a focus on video production, writing, design and social media.
• Production/Editing: Assist with filming, editing and producing engaging content that highlights Cabarrus County services, events and initiatives.
• Creativity and Technical: Requires creativity, some technical skills and the willingness to participate in a true team environment.

Active Living and Parks Department Duties:
The Active Living and Parks internship offers hands-on experience.

• Program Support: Assist with planning, organizing, and delivering programs, help facility activities that promote wellness, engagement, and lifelong learning
• Special Events & Community Engagement: Help organize and implement public events, including Touch-A-Truck, Expo, tournaments, and community celebrations; work alongside staff to ensure event logistics, volunteer coordination, and participant experience are successful.
• Park Operations & Facility Management: Support the daily operations of parks, trails, and active living centers; assist with scheduling, maintenance coordination, and visitor services
• Administrative Support: Help collect and analyze data related to program participation and community needs; contribute to grant research, policy review, and department-wide initiatives; gain exposure to the planning and budgeting process that guide parks and recreation services
• Marketing & Communication: Create engaging content for social media and flyers; capture photos and stories that highlight the impact of parks and programs and collaborate on campaigns to increase awareness and participation in department offerings

Business Services Department Duties:
The Business Services internship offers hands-on experience.

• Support the HR centralization project across Social Services by assisting in the implementation of standardized best practices.
• Collaborate with HR team members on evaluation processes, including tracking deadlines, sending reminders, and following up on required documentation such as PSRs.
• Assist in developing and documenting internal HR procedures and practices, including the creation of an internal HR manual.
• Auditing invoices and other accounting tasks as assigned.
• Reconciliation of coding and Federal/State funding
• Perform monthly reconciliation of Social Services payroll to the general ledger to support financial reporting and highlight the connection between HR and accounting functions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices in the area of work or assignment; knowledge of research techniques relevant to the area of work; knowledge of data collection methods and techniques; knowledge of the equipment used in the area of work or assignment; proficiency in basic computer skills; ability to research and organize facts and present them in a simple and clearly written form; ability to prepare written reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

Eligibility Requirements

• Applicants must be a recent graduate or currently attending an accredited college, university, law school, community college or technical institute.
• Applicants must carry a 2.5 or greater overall grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
• Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
• Applicants must be willing and able to work for the entire internship assignment period.
• Applicants must be able to provide legal proof of identity and work authorization within three working days of employment.
• Recent graduates are defined as completing all requirements for an associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational, or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution within the previous two (2) years.
