Position Summary

Primus Aerospace is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Quality Intern to support our Quality Assurance team in a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment. This internship provides hands-on experience with aerospace quality systems, inspection processes, continuous improvement initiatives, and compliance with industry standards such as AS9100 and ISO 9001.

The ideal candidate is pursuing a degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, Quality Assurance, or a related technical discipline and is eager to gain real-world experience within the aerospace industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with inspection of aerospace components using precision measuring equipment.
  • Support the review of manufacturing documentation, inspection reports, and quality records.
  • Participate in internal audits and quality system activities.
  • Assist in collecting, analyzing, and reporting quality metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Help investigate nonconforming materials and support root cause analysis activities.
  • Assist with Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) documentation.
  • Verify documentation for compliance with AS9100, customer requirements, and internal procedures.
  • Support First Article Inspection (FAI) documentation in accordance with AS9102 requirements.
  • Maintain accurate quality records and filing systems.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
  • Assist in preparing presentations, reports, and data summaries for management.
  • Observe manufacturing processes and identify opportunities for quality improvements.
  • Support calibration record maintenance and gauge tracking.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Currently pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Manufacturing Engineering
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Aerospace Engineering
    • Quality Engineering
    • Engineering Technology
    • Or a related technical field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous manufacturing or internship experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with blueprint reading is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles is desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (preferred).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Willingness to learn aerospace quality standards and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) (observation/training)
  • Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • ERP and Quality Management Systems (training provided)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk throughout the manufacturing facility.
  • Frequently lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to use hands for measuring equipment and computer work.
  • Visual ability to inspect precision aerospace components.
  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Work Environment

This position is performed in both an office and a precision aerospace manufacturing environment. Exposure to machinery, moderate noise levels, lubricants, coolants, and moving equipment is expected. Appropriate PPE is required while in production areas.
