Job description

Engineering Project Manager I or II

SUMMARY 

Mortenson is currently seeking an Engineering Project Manager I or II that will manage the overall scope, schedule, and budget of engineering projects as well as manage relationships with stakeholders and build a Market portfolio supporting a Mortenson Operating Group. Projects would include the engineering scopes of Wind, Solar, Battery Storage, Substation, T-lines, and Collection Systems with the potential to grow into new operating groups within Mortenson.

This position offers opportunities at both levels 1 or 2, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation for this role is determined based on factors such as experience and location.  

Hiring Locations: Minneapolis MN (highly preferred) or Denver, CO

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage projects

  • Build and maintain schedules for engineering projects by coordinating with the engineering teams and design phase manager 
  • Facilitate and lead projects including leading the meetings for design team engineers related to project coordination
  • Learn and use the construction management software tool to manage all phases and aspects of projects including the vendor drawing review process and submittal of the design deliverable packages to the customer.
  • Manage open engineering project issues to close by deadlines.  
  • Collaborate with design team engineers, design phase managers, and field team project managers to ensure exceptional end-customer experience.

Partner with the Engineering Project Management Team and internal customers

  • Create project estimates and provide business development support
  • Contract scope administration and management
  • Provide resource management assistance 
  • Collaborate with internal customers to track and understand long term needs

Provide direction to the project design team for timely project completion

  • Prioritize engineering activities to maintain a schedule for each of the disciplines
  • Act as liaison for design team engineers, engineering leadership, design phase managers, and customers
  • Direct engineers to complete project responsibilities by the due dates for deliverables completion

Assist in performing cost control and fiscal management

  • Coordinate scopes of work with the budget for the project
  • Oversee project budget and make recommendations for project optimization

Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to:

  • Acquire, organize, assess, analyze, and streamline engineering project data.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline, Construction Management, or related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate large projects and bring clarity and structure to complexity
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, project and pertinent web application skills 
  • Ability to drive workstreams independently and mentor entry level employees 
  • Demonstrated ownership and commitment to achieving goals and hitting deadlines
  • Detail orientated and able to organize and manage multiple projects and tasks 
  • Process improvement mindset with a focus on building and improving scalable systems
  • Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback
  • Able to navigate conflict with respect and the best interest of all parties in mind
  • Shown positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
  • Ability to travel up to 15%
  • Basic knowledge of Power/Wind/Solar/BESS Technologies (preferred)

Engineering Project Manager I Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of related engineering and/or project management experience

Engineering Project Manager II Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of related engineering and/or project management experience

  • PMP certification (preferred)

The base pay range for this role is $95,700 - $167,100  (The actual range is higher for the following office locations:  Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%)  

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skill, and experience with consideration given to internal equity.
