Produces abstracts of judgment, executive notices, and similar documentation requiring high accuracy or independent judgment in selecting materials. Produces sophisticated charts, forms, statistical, and similar documents from rough drafts, requiring skill in arranging tabular material, setting up forms, and utmost typing accuracy. Processes documents according to a specified and technical procedure for such purposes as formulating property descriptions and recording and indexing court papers, transcripts, and legal processes.
Verifies documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements. Responds to inquiries and offer information to the public regarding regulations and procedures; prepare and file legal forms, applications, and permit requests; act as a special receptionist or counter clerk. Keeps records requiring particular knowledge, discrimination, and judgment in the selection, compilation, or computation of data to be included, such as cost data records and distribution and control ledgers, which can be posted without extensive knowledge of bookkeeping principles.
Maintains clerical controls where work is divided among personnel performing separate parts of an entire operation. Searches records and files for data where judgment and discrimination are required in selecting or abstracting material. Answers correspondence that requires data selection, vital in formulating the reply, and refers unusual cases to a supervisor for approval.
Estimates the amount due and collects fees. Exercises minor supervision over the work of others as needed. Compares or segregates documents where particular knowledge of the function and more than a routine check for accuracy are involved, as in auditing warrants or purchase orders.
Operates office machines such as calculators, incidental to the performance of other duties. Routinely accesses office equipment, such as video display terminals, word processors, or personal computers, to input data, perform computations, or produce documents that do not require the formatting or programming of such equipment as needed. For further information, please view the classification specification: Intermediate Typist-Clerk Requirements Requirements to Qualify: Option 1: Six months of office clerical experience involving typewriting in the service of the County of Los Angeles or in districts under the jurisdiction of the County of Los Angeles.
-OR- Option 2: One year of office clerical experience involving typewriting outside the service of the County of Los Angeles. -OR- Option 3: A certificate or Associate of Arts degree in clerical procedures or office administration from an accredited university.* Special Requirement Information: To receive credit for your education, include a legible copy of all relevant official documents, including your diploma, transcript, or letter/certificate from an accredited institution with your application. Ensure documents are unlocked before attaching to your application or sending to the exam analyst. Typing Skill Requirement: This position requires a typing proficiency of 40 net words per minute (NWPM). You may not need to take a typing test if you meet any of the following: Current or former County employees who have held a typing position that required the necessary wpm.
Applicants who have already taken and passed the County's typing performance test (administered by the Department of Human Resources) at the required wpm. If your passing score is already on file, it will be transferred automatically-no need to retest. Applicants who passed the "Typing Test - Score-Banking Only" with the required net wpm.
Your score will also transfer automatically. Applicants who passed a County typing test administered by a department other than DHR must attach a copy of the typing certificate to the application at the time of filing. If the certificate cannot be attached during filing, it must be emailed to DHRClericalExams@hr.lacounty.gov within seven (7) calendar days of filing the application
Candidates who have not taken the typing performance test or met the typing requirement, as mentioned above, will be provided with a link to the Los Angeles County typing performance test during the examination process. Withhold Information: No withhold will be allowed for this recruitment. Required experience, education, or certification must be fully met by the last day of filing and clearly indicated on the application.
License: A valid California Class C Driver's License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions. Physical Class: 2 - Light. This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting.
Considerable ambulation may be involved. Additional Information Once we have identified that you meet our requirements, an invitation regarding the following assessment process will be sent. Examination Content: This exam will consist of a multiple-choice and/or simulation assessment(s), weighted 100%, measuring: General Problem-Solving Skills Customer Focus Learning Potential Responsibility Life Experiences You must meet the Requirements to Qualify and achieve a passing score of 70% or higher in order to be placed on the eligible list.
Exam Review: Exam components are not subject to review by candidates. Multiple choice and/or simulation assessments are not reviewable by candidates per CSR 7.19. Transfer of Test Components: If you have taken identical components recently for other exams, your responses may be automatically transferred to this examination
This exam contains test components that might be used on future exams, and your responses could be transferred to that exam.
