The Junior Interior Designer supports the planning and design of innovative workplace markets and food service environments that enhance the customer experience while supporting operational efficiency. This role combines technical drafting expertise with creative interior design, producing accurate design development documents, 3D renderings, and presentation materials for new installations and remodels.
Working closely with the Construction and Design Director and team members, the Junior Interior Designer will develop design solutions that align with Continental's brand standards while gaining experience in commercial retail and foodservice design. This position is ideal for an early-career designer looking to build technical expertise while contributing creatively to real-world projects.
Essential Responsibilities:

Interior Design & Space Planning
  • Create functional and visually engaging interior layouts for workplace markets and foodservice environments
  • Assist in developing design concepts that align with client needs, operational requirements, and Continental brand standards
  • Produce presentation materials, renderings, and visual concepts to communicate design intent
  • Select finishes, furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) as needed while maintaining design consistency and project requirements
  • Incorporate merchandising, customer flow, seating areas, and self-service elements into design layouts
  • Continuously learn and apply foodservice planning principles, commercial building standards, and ADA requirements.
CAD Design & Documentation
  • Produce accurate 2D and 3D drawings using AutoCAD, Sketchup and Enscape
  • Create design development drawing packages including
  • Develop high-quality renderings and visualizations to support client presentations.
  • Revise drawings based on design feedback, field measurements, and project requirements.
  • Maintain drawing accuracy and adherence to company drafting standards.
Design Support
  • Present design concepts and renderings to internal teams and/or clients
  • Conduct site visits and field measurements as needed to verify existing conditions.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure designs support operational and customer goals
  • Maintain organized project files and drawing documentation throughout the design process
  • Stay current on industry trends, materials, products, and design technologies
  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design from an accredited program 
  • 2+ years of experience in design or space planning (Foodservice and/or retail spaces a plus)
  • Proven ability to manage multiple small to medium-scale projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong understanding of drafting standards and design development documents
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Working knowledge of space planning principles including ADA compliance and building codes
  • Proficient in: AutoCAD, Sketchup, Microsoft Office Suite, 
  • Experience in: Enscape (or other 3D rendering software), Smartsheets and ArcSite

Location(s) & Logistics: 
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Full-Time position location in Troy, Michigan
  • Hybrid Schedule with 4 days required in office and 1 day remote
  • Occasional travel within Continental's footprint (MI, OH, NY, PA, IN)
