Senior Automotive Interior Trim CAD Designer (Siemens NX/Unigraphics) - Headliner & Hard Trim

Location: Warren, MI
Job Type: Full-Time
Pay: Up to $40.75 per hour (DOE)

About the Opportunity

Our client, [Confidential], is seeking an experienced Interior Headliner & Hard Trim Designer (NX) to join a high-performing automotive design team in Warren, Michigan. This role is ideal for a designer with strong expertise in interior trim systems, injection molded plastic components, and headliner development. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership while supporting the design and integration of highly complex interior vehicle components.

 

Siemens NX/Unigraphics experience is required to be considered for this role.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and integration of interior trim plastic parts
  • Experience with injection molded plastic parts including:
    • Hard Trim
    • Instrument Panels (IP)
    • Floor Consoles
  • Experience with compression molded parts, specifically headliners
  • Understanding of modern plastic tooling and manufacturing terminology
  • Knowledge of mold flow analysis and design validation tools including:
    • Pre/Post Analysis
    • DFM Pro
    • Clearance Checker
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor other designers
  • Review and verify the quality of design deliverables
  • Lead design reviews and technical discussions
  • Resolve technical design conflicts and challenges
  • Assess buildability, manufacturability, and subsystem integration alongside Lead Design Engineers and Design Managers
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining design completion schedules
  • Identify potential design issues and drive corrective actions
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and innovative design solutions

 

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • 11+ years of experience in engineering or automotive design disciplines
  • 11+ years of experience as a Designer
  • 11+ years applying CAD, GD&T, tolerancing, and math data management practices
  • 11+ years working independently with moderate management direction
  • 11+ years collaborating with cross-functional engineering and design teams

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Siemens NX/Unigraphics (UG)
  • Experience with injection molded plastic component design
  • Experience with compression molded headliner components
  • Knowledge of mold flow analysis and manufacturing validation processes
  • Expert-level experience with advanced modeling techniques and UG functionality
  • Working knowledge of global safety standards and SAE guidelines
  • Ability to diagnose complex technical issues and implement effective solutions using root cause analysis
