Job description

At Cuningham, we design environments that shape how people feel, engage, and connect. In this role, you will lead the design process through all project phases, developing design solutions and documentation required to meet project intent and local governing codes. You will lead small to medium-scale project scopes and manage small, multi-level teams in a collaborative design environment.
We are seeking a Certified Project Interior Designer with a strong Interior Architecture background preferred to join our Denver team. This role is ideal for a highly technical, design-forward professional who can lead interior projects through all phases while leveraging an architectural understanding to strengthen coordination, documentation, and design intent across disciplines.
What You'll Be Doing:
  • Participate in forming high-performing teams alongside Project Managers, aligned with established teaming processes.
  • Lead design development, coordination, and production efforts across small to medium-scale projects through all phases.
  • Drive iterative, collaborative design processes aligned with project success metrics.
  • Lead client communication and manage expectations, ensuring clear, effective bi-directional feedback between internal teams and clients.
  • Develop and present strong interior design concepts and presentations throughout all project phases.
  • Manage finish, material, lighting, and furniture selections, coordinating with specifications teams.
  • Oversee interiors coordination with architecture and all consultant disciplines to ensure conceptual and technical alignment.
  • Produce and review drawing sets, including redlines, ensuring accuracy and alignment with design intent.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes and support permitting processes related to interior projects.
  • Participate in construction administration, including site visits, observations, submittals, RFIs, and field verification.
  • Identify project risks and escalate concerns to Project Managers and Project Executives as needed.
  • Support project pursuits, including proposals, interviews, and presentation preparation.
  • Mentor and support junior team members through thoughtful task assignment and development opportunities.
  • Encourage regenerative design thinking across built, social, and natural environments.
  • Utilize MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, Revit/BIM 360.
  • Build familiarity with Rhino, Enscape, and Lumion for design development and visualization.

What We Look For:
  • NCIDQ Certification (or equivalent interior design certification) required
  • 7+ years of professional interior design experience leading projects through all phases (concept through construction administration)
  • Multi-market experience (workplace, hospitality, themed entertainment & attraction, gaming, healthcare, education, civic, retail, mixed-use, or similar)
  • Strong Interior Architecture background preferred, with ability to understand and coordinate architectural systems, details, and documentation impacts
  • Experience working across both interior design and architectural documentation environments is a strong plus
  • Proven experience producing and coordinating construction documents, including redline review and technical documentation
  • Strong understanding of building codes and permitting processes related to interior projects
  • Excellent communication skills with experience presenting to clients and leading design discussions
  • Proficiency in Revit/BIM 360, Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with Rhino, Enscape, and Lumion is a plus
