What is an interior design company?

Interior design companies are professional firms that specialize in planning, designing, and managing the aesthetics and functionality of interior spaces in homes, offices, and other buildings. They work with clients to create designs that reflect their tastes and needs, often handling everything from space planning and color selection to furniture sourcing and project management. These companies may employ a team of designers, architects, and project managers to ensure the successful execution of each project. By leveraging their expertise, interior design companies help clients improve comfort, efficiency, and the overall visual appeal of their environments.

What are some common challenges interior designers face when working with clients at an interior design company?

Interior designers at interior design companies often encounter challenges such as balancing client preferences with budget constraints, managing project timelines, and addressing unexpected issues like supply chain delays or structural limitations. Effective communication is vital to ensure clients’ visions are understood while setting realistic expectations. Additionally, designers frequently collaborate with architects, contractors, and vendors, requiring strong coordination and problem-solving skills to deliver successful projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive at an interior design company, and why are they important?

To thrive at an interior design company, you need a strong foundation in design principles, spatial planning, and proficiency in relevant design education or certifications. Familiarity with CAD software, 3D modeling tools, and project management systems is typically required. Exceptional creativity, attention to detail, communication, and client relationship skills make someone stand out in this field. These skills ensure the ability to deliver innovative, functional, and client-focused design solutions that meet both aesthetic and practical needs.

Job description

Senior Graphic Designer Hartmann&Forbes® | Tualatin, Oregon | On-site

About the role

Hartmann&Forbes is hiring a Senior Graphic Designer to lead creative production and elevate the visual brand across print and digital. This is a hands-on role with real ownership: you will translate creative direction into finished work, build the systems that sustain brand consistency, and raise the standard for everything that carries our name.

You will report to the Director of Marketing and work across the full brand output, from the Reference Kit and seasonal tabloids to photography production, merchandising, and the website.

What you will own

Design and layout for brand and sales assets, including the Brand Book, Product Portfolio, Style Guide, Price List, tabloids, email, and collateral. Creative production workflows from brief through final delivery. Brand Guidelines, quality standards, and template systems. Photography shot lists, post-production, and asset libraries. Merchandising, event, and showroom materials. Visual execution for the website. Management of internal designers and freelance production artists. Vendor and print production coordination.

What we are looking for

Bachelor's degree in Design or a related field. 5+ years of experience in a multi-channel environment. 5+ years of supervisory experience. A genuine eye for high-end interior design and an understanding of the trade. Fluency in both creative and business software. Print production experience. Strong communication and follow-up skills. The organizational discipline to manage multiple projects without losing quality. Comfort working without a project manager in a self-directed environment.

Experience in premium or trade-focused markets is a strong advantage.
