Interior Design Assistant – Project-Based

Teranky Design

Location: Fairfax, Virginia

Employment Type: Project-Based / Temporary

Compensation: Hourly, based on experience

Schedule: Project-dependent; part-time or full-time hours as required

About Teranky Design

Teranky Interior Design is a luxury interior design firm specializing in thoughtfully designed, highly personalized residential interiors. We are seeking a talented and dependable Interior Design Assistant to support an active residential project in Fairfax, Virginia.

This is a hands-on project-based opportunity for an interior designer who can work independently, take direction when needed, and confidently manage assigned tasks with minimal supervision.

The Role

The Interior Design Assistant will work closely with the lead designer and project team to support the execution of an active residential interior design project.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, design-conscious, and comfortable moving between design development, sourcing, documentation, procurement support, and on-site project coordination.

Key Responsibilities

* Assist with the development and execution of residential interior design concepts.

* Research and source furniture, lighting, accessories, finishes, artwork, and other design materials.

* Prepare and update furniture and finish selections, specifications, and procurement information.

* Assist with creating and organizing mood boards, presentations, material selections, and project documentation.

* Review dimensions and site conditions and communicate discrepancies to the lead designer.

* Assist with furniture layouts, space planning, and design documentation.

* Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, installers, and other project-related professionals as directed.

* Conduct product research and obtain pricing, availability, lead times, and specifications.

* Assist with procurement tracking and maintaining accurate project records.

* Participate in site visits and assist with project installations, styling, and final detailing.

* Help coordinate deliveries, inspections, furniture placement, and installation activities.

* Photograph and document project progress when required.

* Maintain organized digital and physical project files.

* Complete assigned tasks independently and communicate progress, questions, and potential issues promptly.

* Perform other design and project-support duties as required.

Qualifications

Required:

* Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a closely related field.

* Previous professional experience in interior design.

* Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal to no supervision.

* Strong understanding of residential interior design principles, space planning, furniture, finishes, and materials.

* Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

* Strong attention to detail.

* Professional communication and interpersonal skills.

* Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.

* Proficiency with standard design and productivity software.

Preferred:

* Experience working on luxury or high-end residential projects.

* Experience with furniture and FF&E sourcing and procurement.

* Experience with design presentations and specifications.

* Experience coordinating vendors, deliveries, and installations.

* Familiarity with CAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar design software.

* Local knowledge of Fairfax/Northern Virginia vendors and design resources.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who is resourceful, proactive, dependable, and confident in their design abilities.

This is not a role for someone who requires constant direction. The successful candidate should be able to receive an assignment, understand the desired outcome, research and execute the task, and provide updates or ask thoughtful questions when clarification is needed.

A strong eye for detail and a genuine appreciation for elevated residential design are essential.

Compensation

Hourly compensation based on experience and qualifications.

This is a project-based assignment, with hours scheduled according to the needs and timeline of the project. The initial project is located in Fairfax, Virginia.

How to Apply

Please submit:

* Resume

* Portfolio of relevant interior design work

* Brief description of your professional experience

* Your hourly rate or hourly rate expectations

* Availability for the Fairfax project

Candidates whose experience aligns with the project requirements will be contacted for an interview.

Teranky Design is committed to creating beautiful, functional, and thoughtfully considered spaces, and we welcome candidates who share our passion for exceptional design and client service.
