Overview


We are seeking a highly skilled, versatile, and hands-on Systems Integration Engineer to lead the mechanical, electrical, optical, and fluidic packaging of our proprietary analytical technologies into ruggedized, field-deployable products.  In this role, you will bridge the gap between high-level optical analytics and custom, field-ready systems – frequently designing tailored solutions to meet specific customer requirements.


A major near-term focus for this position will be leading the systems integration for a new project measuring water quality parameters (produced water, flowback, and injection water) in harsh hydraulic fracturing environments, alongside our existing gas and liquid hydrocarbon applications.  This role requires an interdisciplinary engineer who thrives on 3D CAD design, custom sampling systems, and hands-on field deployment.


Key Responsibilities


  • Act as the technical lead for evaluating, sourcing, and integrating diverse third-party sensors (e.g., pH, conductivity, turbidity, pressure) into our core platform to fulfill unique customer measurement requests.
  • Design and specify custom sample conditioning systems (SCS) for both liquid and gas hydrocarbon/water streams.  This includes integrating pressure regulation, active temperature control (heating/cooling), filtration loops, flow control, and automated grab-sampling systems.
  • Own the layout, wiring, and thermal management of industrial, optional air-conditioned enclosures.  Safely package complex internal hardware stacks, including spectrometers, fiber-optic routing, power supplies, embedded computers, ethernet switches, cellular modems, and PLCs.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate wetted materials (e.g., 316SS, Hastelloy, Monel, PTFE) to ensure long-term system reliability when handling highly corrosive process streams or high-salinity oilfield water.
  • Create, manage, and maintain complete engineering documentation packages using 3D and 2D CAD (SolidWorks).  Deliverables include detailed mechanical manufacturing drawings, sheet metal design, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), electrical schematics, bill of materials (BOMs), and custom installation/user/service manuals.
  • Travel to customer sites to support installation, commissioning, site-acceptance testing (SAT), and hands-on troubleshooting of integrated systems in the field.
  • Interface with fabrication partners, machine shops, and enclosure vendors.  Supervise prototyping phases, conduct design reviews, and establish quality control/testing protocols for production-ready units.


Candidate Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in product design, systems integration, or custom panel design – ideally within the process analytical, oil and gas, or water treatment industries.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) with deep knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and standard drafting practices.
  • Familiarity with industrial hardware integration, including DC power distribution, PLCs, ethernet switches, cell modems, and industrial PCs.
  • Proven experience designing NEMA 4X/IP66 industrial enclosures, including active thermal management calculations (heat load, solar gain, cooling sizing).
  • Solid understanding of designing for Class I, Division 2 (C1D2) environments, including explosion-proof wiring and purge/pressurization systems.
  • Willingness and capability to work in industrial field environments for deployment, commissioning, and technical troubleshooting.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Direct experience with water chemistry or water management systems in hydraulic fracturing (fracking) operations.
  • Familiarity with spectroscopy, laser safety protocols, or optoelectronic sub-systems.
  • Hands-on prototyping skills (building test fixtures, light assembly, or fluidic plumbing).
  • Experience of product design to meet strict regulatory and safety standards, ensuring compliance with Class I, Division 2 (C1D2) or Zone 2 requirements using methods such as physical isolation, explosion-proof components, or purge and pressurization systems.
