OHOH specializes in the design and fabrication of public art, architectural placemaking, product prototyping, and experiential design. We are a fun, creative collective of artists working in a fast-paced, collaborative design studio and fabrication shop.

Overview

One Hat One Hand is looking for a skilled and detail-orientedTechnical Designer to join our multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in custom fabrication, industrial design, or architecture, and a deep understanding of construction methodologies across a wide range of materials. This role requires the ability to produce precise, industry-standard technical drawings at a fast pace to support clients, architects, engineers, and both internal and external production teams. In addition to producing detailed technical documentation, the role includes elements of presentation design and project management. We're seeking someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, communicates clearly, is passionate about creative problem-solving, and seeing their projects come to life in front of them. Given the collaborative hands-on nature of our design/build practice, this is an in person position.


Primary Responsibilities

The following are key duties and responsibilities of a Technical Designer at OHOH:

  • Develop clear, constructible 3D design concepts and supporting visualizations in collaboration with the Design Studio Manager and Production Department.
  • Produce accurate technical drawing sets for clients, engineers, and fabrication teams
  • Collaborate closely with internal production, finishing, and metal departments departments throughout the lifecycle of the project
  • Generate documentation for coordination with external consultants including structural and MEP engineers, and for permitting processes
  • Create cut files and CNC-ready documents for internal fabrication and external vendors
  • Answer key questions and problem solve in collaboration with the fabrication team
  • Support presentation efforts through design decks and visual storytelling
  • Participate in project planning meetings and stakeholder communication
  • Coordinate material sourcing and ensure scheduled fabrication teams have everything needed to complete their tasks
  • Keep expense reports up to date and track purchases against project estimates


Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Professional experience in technical design for architecture, industrial design, or stagecraft and event production
  • Strong custom fabrication background and knowledge of construction methodologies and best practices
  • Skilled in Rhino, G-suite, Adobe Suite and CAD. Proficient in Sketchup, Vectorworks, V-Ray, Enscape, Blender, or Unreal a plus.
  • Knowledge of designing for wood, steel, aluminum, acrylic, foams, plastics, casting and finishing
  • Experience processing graphics packages for printing on a variety of materials and substrates
  • Digital fabrication experience including CNC, laser cutting, waterjet, and 3d printing
  • Knowledge of LED lighting design, wiring and programming
  • Highly creative, detailed oriented, and strong critical thinking
  • Clear and concise written and spoken communication skills
